... but if I was to start again knowing the little that I do I would buy TOTL IC's and cables and then work a system around them

Exactly. I have said this multiple times. Power, and cables, are the foundation of a good stereo. Get the best cables available, and all your gear will work at its best.

Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.

Picked up a set of Wireworld Silver Eclipse 7 speaker cables for a song today! Can't wait for them to arrive!

Also ordered Mundorf Supreme caps for my Belles 350 amp because since my Belles 21A pre reacted so positively to the Supremes I don't want to totally give up on the 350A. SO... Upgrade in progress!

Well, the city council was shut down right after the Covid thing hit, so my appearance before the zoning board was delayed, to get a variance approved. I finally got notice the other day to appear (via Zoom) in a couple of weeks! Government, ugh. But hopefully I'll get approval and begin to break ground this year!

This is a little system I put together for some “breezeway” listening. It consists of a 10wpc tube amp,a Prometheus TVC pre,a Bluesound Node, and a pair of Def Tech sm350’s. It isn’t my listening room system, however, it serves its purpose.

Ok,so this is starting to get a little out of hand. Since setting this system up,I’ve taken the passive pre out,and added an older Aric Audio tube pre that I had in the closet. I put in a pair of ZU Libtecs , and lastly plugged in the Graham Chartwell LS3/5’s from my main system. I think it sounds pretty good.

I've heard good things about Aric audio, but I've never heard one

    Two words, John.

    Physical Media.

Accept no substitute.. I have a network player for those songs/albums I long to hear but physical media? That's where it's at bro'.

    Tom

Hmmm. Someone couldn’t tell between the two at last I remember.

True. I will not argue that. I was also 3 sheets into the wind on tequila when the test went down.

With that said, I have passed tests that defy 10 fold detecting things that "were not possible" with as many as 29 people in a room to witness. I have heard deficiencies in speakers while simply walking through a room that within minutes from failing, I pointed out and people in the room laughed....until the speaker failed minutes later.

Whether that is a testament to your gear, unfamiliar gear to me, a system that isn't as revealing as what I may be used too or the fact that I am getting older? Who's to say.

Yours is one of the best network players I have heard to date, even surpassing some that I have heard in high end shops but, your system is also different from the rigs in said shops too. I have to keep that in mind.

All I know is that on my system with my gear and in my room? Physical media exceeds all and the difference is very noticeable. Plus, I do like reading the liner notes and I do not EVER have to worry about technological glitches that wipe out all of my media or not being able to find something online because I actually have what I want at a moments notice.

Perhaps I am old school and simply prefer physically "owning" what I listen too and not having to deal with logging in or subscribing to hear what I have purchased. I am not part of the convenience crowd and don't think I ever will be.
