How do the new L800 SDA compare to the Original Legend SDA-SRS 1.2TL?

You knew someone would start this thread... For those that have heard both, or any SRS series speaker, how does the new compare to the classics?

I heard them today at RMAF. I’d encourage everyone to hear them for themselves and not put too much weight on my opinion. The soundstage was as great as you’d expect. I swear I heard a piano coming from 3 feet outside of the speakers. I think the room setup was a little boomy though. I don’t think it was the speaker’s fault but I currently prefer my modded 2.3tls for clarity, especially in the bass. I heard they’d have them at Listen Up so I’ll go back and give them another listen to be fair.

Thanks for posting your thoughts. I wondered about boomy bass due to the dual drivers and the port. I wonder why they didn’t run one active bass driver and a passive inside a sealed box.

I did not notice boomy bass at my demo.

Using a PR would have resulted in a speaker that didn't resemble the rest of the series.

Only way you can be truly fair (and I doubt this will happen) is to have your speakers in the same exact room. Not a doubt in my mind that the new big boys will sound a lot better but as always time will tell. I'll hang on for a couple of years as my current sets of towers are doing a great job but my eyes are loving what they're peepin'!

I really think the boomy bass was due to the room set up. They really crank out a lot of bass and it's hard to control that much bass in a hotel room.

If I was given a choice between a stock vintage SDA or the L800 SDA, it would be a no-brainer. I'd take the L800. But comparing it to my modded 2.3tls with Clarity Caps, Gaia II feet, RD0-198 tweeters, and a brand new dreadnaught makes the decision tougher. I'd still consider the L800s because I think I could tame the bass with room treatments and some dsp. The kicker for me personally is the price. I already have amazing speakers that I paid around $2500 for, so I wonder if the LS800s are worth the extra $3500.
