The Riviera was a trim package only until it became a model in it's own right in 1963. In 1959, it would have been part of the Electra family. The 401 would have been a standard engine in the LeSabre in 1960, as it entered production in 1959, and became the base motor for Buick's full size platforms.

Nice job bringing that one back to life! Very nice.

Your old Camaro was like my girlfriends when I was 18. Hers had the shark fins on the side, spoiler in the back and all of the rims and tires were wide, low profile. Done stylishly though, not like some of today's where the tires are an inch tall on the sidewall. Hers was a custom Gray metallic with the same engine....that was a fun car to drive!

Something like this? Bought it new in '79 at age 19. Not much HP by todays standards but was pretty badass and helped getting the ladies....

Yes! Different rims, different paint job but pretty much like that! Only other thing different was that this was my womans ride. She was hot to begin with, place her in that car an my heart melted. Hers would chirp gears all the way to 3rd and would lay a 5' patch going into third if you went hard on the pedal.

I bought a new Camaro in 79. Looked a lot like this one with a body color rear spoiler (Camel Metalic). Ordered it with 350, 4bbl, auto. It looked good, but performance wise it was a gas guzzling boat anchor of a motor (stock). My 69 Mustang with a 302 was a much better engine.

Got married...and had to get a "family" car...a Datsun 200sx.

    Steve,

That's because your Camaro's 350 was chocking on all the smog regulations whereas the 302 in the '69 Mustang was free to breath unrestricted!

Had a good friend of mine have the 1988 version 300ZX. Loved how smooth that car would kick it. So much fun.

My Dad's friend had a 240 back in the day and he took me up to the mountains in it. I wasn't old enough to drive yet (could barely see over the dash) but I could tell Bob had a lot of fun driving that car. I liked the power it had without being obnoxiously loud.

Only minor issue was that I saw the highway from the passenger seat the whole trip. The floorboard had rusted out! Apparently that was a common issue of datsun's back in that day and age. I kept thinking that I was one speed bump away from my seat falling out from the bottom. LOL

I agree with you Tom, that was the best looking Goat. The 64 was lighter, but had less hp as it was 348hp and the 65 was 360hp with 3x2 barrel carbs.

The first fast car I rode in was a 63 Chevy SS 409 4 speed convertible, the second was a 65 yellow GTO 4 speed convertible. My father and uncle took it out and to see how fast it was on a nearby street from a standing start at one light pole and seeing how fast it was going when we passed the third one. It hit 80 mph or so if I remember correctly.
