How do the new L800 SDA compare to the Original Legend SDA-SRS 1.2TL?

Looking at the values, I actually think changing the caps and resistors would be fairly simple...

Changing all those iron core inductors would be a true bear and require remote mounting but not impossible.

Well Polk told F1 otherwise so I'm sure they will add clarity to the subject.

We will find out here in a few months now won't we ;) .

I still respect your take you have a keen knowledge.

Those are poly caps no or are they Mylar? Wonder who supplies them for Polk?

    @Vr3,

    What do you think?

Is it likely to be worth it for the improvement in sound quality, perhaps, without changing the inductors?

Even at the price Polk is advertising, I would bet they had to make some compromises on component quality to reduce costs.

    Thanks, @pitdogg2.

    Please pardon my ignorance.

Of course, @F1nut, characteristically [ :) ] provides no context, but I should have read your comment, which Vanilla indicates you posted several minutes before my post.

Can they be? Sure, but there's a lot of components on the board, so it isn't going to be cheap.

    They're $6k loudspeakers, so that's OK.
I mean, it's like buying a BMW (especially a used, older one) -- it's a given that the parts and service are gonna be costly.

Absolutely, changing them with a cap like the Clarity Cap CSA and the resistors to Jantzen superes would yield gains. Everything can be improved, there is truly no limit in audio. You could build an enclosure externally the size of the speakers, drop $30k in duelund caps and resistors. The world is your oyster!! haha

From what I've seen, it would seem very difficult to upgrade the stock crossovers,...

Not for those of us who know how to design circuit boards. ;)

In the future, when I am more dedicated to audio than I am now, I will buy two sets of L800's, one to mod out to the nines, the other to keep stock, both to compare to my hot rodded SDA SRS 1.2TLs. :)

I think I safely speak for all of us in saying we eagerly await that review. Would a GoFund me page help?

  • Metalized polypropylene will definitely improve the performance, but consider the original TOT SRSs were mostly NP Electrolytics. I'll take Mylars over Electrolytics any day.
