Would I be upgrading if I went from my SL1000 tweeters to SL3000 tweeters? I'm thinking of getting a couple from someone offline. He only has two he's getting rid of though. Should I get two more if I do get them?

I really don't understand why this question keeps coming up since I have expended considerable time and effort posting the vast majority of the Compendium's contents right here on the forum. Schematics, modification tips, series history, etc., are all right here.

I understand the disappointment and frustration of those who missed out on the earlier Compendium printings, but really, minimal effort is required to find just about whatever information one might need from either prior forum posts or member inquiry.:)

For soft copy, refer to my answer above. A 3rd edition is certainly possible, but not likely. I don't think people realize how time consuming such a project is. It's not something you can knock out during a few hours on the weekend. That is, not if you don't want it to look like a weekend hack job. Most people don't even want to expend the minimal effort required to look up information on the forum. I'm sure you can understand my reluctance to devote another several months and weeks of part-time effort to publish another one of these.

The only Compendium related projects I have planned are:

    1. Go back through the 1st and 2nd editions to compile errata sheets listing the typos and post those on the forum.

    2. A few rich SDA cultists insisted on hardcover 2nd Editions and I complied with their requests. I'll probably make a hardcover copy of the 2nd Edition for myself, but it's not way up there on my lists of audio projects.

Yes, I've noticed. Don't quite know what to make of that.;)

    Thanks DarqueKnight

SL1000 and SL3000 tweeters are not interchangeable. The crossover's of some SDA's designed for the SL2000 can be modified to use the SL3000. Modification of SDA's which used the SL1000 tweeter may be possible to allow use of later tweeters, but I don't recall any. Someone may have posted about this and it escaped my notice. I tend to focus my attention on information pertaining to the SDA "Golden Age" speakers, which comprised the 4th and 5th generation SDA's (1987 and later).:)

IIRC the SL1000's had a smaller face plate?
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

Or it's the magnet hole, I'm not sure. As per Polk customer service, you need to take a router to the cabinet if you want to use one of the later tweeters. I plan on replacing my SL1000's with RD0-198's, but a few modifications to the crossover are also necessary.

I vaguely remember someone not being able to find SL1000 replacements and modifying their speakers for the SL2000.

I think that the peerless would be an ideal replacement. I could help with the XO mods on that. Maybe we could have it stickied somewhere?

Edit: Which one had the SL1000's. The SDA1? I had the SDA, and it had 2000's.

when i asked "what's a person to do?" i was referring to the other fella talking about downloading it somewhere off the net. i infringe upon copyrights all the time. most do. but i wouldn't wanna stick it to you sir raife. but you aren't selling them anymore. i'm fine with that because as you said, all info is here on club polk. and if it's not, we can just post up a question and many will chime in...including you. so we're taken care of.

not having seen or read your compendium deal, from what others say, it would seem it's somewhat of an SDA bible of sorts. anyway, moving on... but before i do, many, MANY thanks for all the work and time you've invested with all this.

Not to beat a dead horse----DK, In the first link you posted a pdf of the TOC. Perhaps make a protected PDF or eBook version for sale/download? Just a thought.

I bought one way back when, but sadly can no longer find it :(. I'm sure it's here in the house somewhere, but during the move it got shuffled into some unknown box. I know I've seen it once since I moved in, so that gives me some hope.

I have Original SDS SRS that I found locally about 6 months ago. The SDA conector on one speaker appears faulty. The SDA effect does not appear to function.
On one speaker when I plug in the interconect, it goes in smooth, on the other there is a little click sound when you push the interconect in place. Anyone know which way its supposed to be? Its the Pin Blade type as most of you probably realize.
