Congratulations on the 2nd edition of the SDA Compendium! The best got even better! This is a must for anyone who wants to thoroughly understand and appreciate one of the milestones in audio. The photographs, modification articles, crossover schematics the individual speaker data are all there. This will be a well used reference for me.
Thanks for all the effort! Ken

I too would like ordering information for the compendium 2. I have been a silent observer of this forum for 5 or 6 years and the darqueknight has lent so much useful information to me. I was ready to depart with my SDA SRS's before I found this sight and now I will never part with them. Please send ordering information. Thank you!!! DarqueKnight

decato & darqueknight, I was a rabid audiophile in the late 70's & through the 80's. Was educated in one of the best electronic tech schools in the mid 70s on electronics and I did a lot of fearless modifying, building and upgrading speakers, amps, etc. I had a pair of SDA/SRS and a very high end system until hard times hit and had to sell the SRSs and almost every other component in early 1990. It has been that long since I even thought about a soldering iron or schematics. I just recently purchased a pair of SRS 1.2tl and am rebuilding my system. I have been reading both of your modifications papers on the SRS 1.2tls and upgrade pages and really would like to do the work on my new Polks. The problem is as I said before that I haven't kept up with any electronic work in over 16 years. I noticed on darqueknight's upgrade he states at the end that the work is not for the faint of heart or inexperienced. Can either one of you guys recommend a refresher course or something to get me up to snuff so I can do these upgrades? Thanks, Joe

I had the above in another thread. So now my questions is will this book help and old rusty audiophile do your upgrades?

    Thanks,
    Joe

If you are rusty, I would advise some practice on something simpler before attempting the SDA mod.

Hearingimpaired, the book will give you a lot of good SDA information. It will help some with the crossover upgrade. But as Darqueknight said, you may want to practice your soldering skills before trying it out on your new 1.2TL's. That being said, I'm no electronics tech and I've performed crossover upgrades on my three different pairs of SDA's without too much problem. It is time consuming and tedious, but not impossible for someone with your background.

You may or may not find the tweeter upgrades a big improvement. The SL3000's were much better tweeters than the SL1000's or 2000's. These things were somewhat harsh. Others liked the "clarity" and don't seem to mind the harshness. I haven't had the opportunity to have a before and after listen of a SL3000 upgrade to the RD-0198 so I can't give you an opinion. Others on this Forum have found this upgrade to be an improvement.

I would recommend you start with an upgrade over the standard SDA interconnect cable. There is lot's of information in the Forum threads about this. Sit back and enjoy the SDA's for a while. Decide if you want some spikes or a bass brace. Either one will give you a little tighter bass. I prefer the brace as I mentioned because it allows the speakers to be moved much easier.

Above all, keep posting and asking questions. We're glad to have you and share your enthusiasm.

Thanks you guys . . . I'm so nuts about this stuff!!! I haven't even acquired the 1.2tls yet. Next Saturday I am driving from Philadelphia to Medford Mass (6 hours) to pick them up. I don't even have them yet and am talking about upgrades & modifications. . . is'nt that just like an obsessed audiophile!

    Thanks again, Joe

I occasionally get asked why I did not include information on the Signature Reference Theater (SRT) system in either edition of the SDA Compendium and would I consider doing so in a future edition.

I did not include SRT information in either Compendium edition because, even though the SRT incorporated SDA technology, it was not part of the regular SDA series, which is the focus of the Compendium.

Also, I have no personal experience with the SRT system other than listening to one a few times in audio stores. This contrasts sharply with my SDA experience which consists of nearly 20 years of ownership of various models in the series, extensive listening, and extensive modification activity.

From a purely academic standpoint, I certainly could write a reference document on the SRT system. However, I believe that reference work of this type should be done by people who have some hands-on knowledge and experience.:)

Darqueknight, I'm new to the forum and can't PM yet. I would appreciate ordering info for the compendium. I have a pair of SDA1Bs and can't imagine how anything could improve their sound, but I can't seem to overcome the notion of messing with perfection.

Not new to the SDA-1, having owned them since 1985. New to the site.

I went abroad and they've just came out of storage after 6 years... :o

Can I get a pm on ordering info for the Compendium 2E?

    Thanks.

Received my copy of the Compendium 2 ed. today. Product is extremely well packaged. The Compendium seems to be everything I wanted and more. Now to contact my local DIYer to arrange to have my SDA-1C crossovers upgraded! Great job, DarqueKnight.
