The "eruption" of Mount Edgecumbe in Alaska.
The story of the man behind this event is worth reading.

That Shure Sonodyne mic in the top center may have been introduced that long ago (I have my doubts, but I am too lazy to check!) -- but it was in continuous production for a long, long time.
Here 'tis in the 1963 Allied catalog, e.g.
https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-Catalogs/Allied-Catalogs/Allied-Catalog-1963.pdf
Pretty sure it was around for quite a while after that.

OK -- I looked it up; couldn't resist
The famous Shure 55 Unidyne debuted in 1939 and has been in continuous production ever since. This is the mic "everyone" associates with Elvis. It's also the mic in the bottom left panel of the photo posted earlier.
The historian's cagey about the 51 Sonodyne, but it looks like it came along in the 'forties.

EDIT: I think the one on the bottom right is an Astatic 10 family member; I dunno which, though.

I should probably also know most of the others -- but I don't offhand. @SeleniumFalcon probably does, though! He probably has some of 'em, too!
Very few really nice mics here, and none of the serious mics (Neumann, Telefunken, RCA ribbons, that kind of stuff) -- not even a Unidyne

Those mics were pricey for the times. The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

The 55 was, it says, $817 (in current dollars) when it was introduced -- so, yeah.
But Elvis & the Col. -- they wuz rich.
Current street price of a Shure Unidyne... umm...
a hunnert an ninety-nine smackers.

In 1939 dollars, that'd've been free! Or maybe they'd have given you like, 50 cents, to take one of these.
Not to prolong the agony of my offtopic ramble , but it is amazing the quality of a condenser mic you can get for short money nowadays.

Speaking of cats:
I have never seen a cat act like the one in this video (same cat in the picture).

Prudent. I did, a time or two.
It was not appreciated.
That prancing cat image above -- that's a thing cats do to make themselves look bigger. We had a black cat, The Bear, who would do that, rear up and dance across the floor on her hind legs in that pose, tail and back fur puffed out. The funny thing was that, if she were in a mood to do it, all it took was to look at her funny, and she was off.
We called it "being a stallion", because she resembled a tiny, psychotic stallion rearing up.
Sadly, I don't think I ever got a photo of her in the act.
She was an interesting cat.

A long-ago friend referred to that type of cat behavior as “John Wayne-ing.” I think of that every time one of our cats does it.

He was passed out. 2 seconds after a phone call to meet some friends out tonight and he pulls this. Dropped the ball right on me.

I saw this online the other day. Like most Muskie fisherman they tried in vain to release the
old girl. She just wouldn't go. Beat the old record from 1957 by just over a pound.

LOL, I had a cat once that was like that. Daggum thing had me in stitches more often than not. She was CRAZY as a kitten but seemed to calm down a bit as she grew older. When you gave her "your look", she gave you "her look"....and then the show started and usually ended up with me getting scratched. Little stinker!

Myyoungest has a black Maine Coon that is spoiled rotten.
He likes to sit in front of the shower door when my son takes a shower.
I think that cat might be...
....uhm ... 😳
As soon as my son sits down, the cat jumps in his lap, puts him in a death grip, and says "You're not getting away while I nap".
Like most black cats, he has an extra helping of CLAWS. 🐯

My first cat was black. I got her from the Humane Society because there was a mouse in the house, and it wouldn't get in the trap. Of course, she didn't catch it either, and I finally caught it in a waste can.

My experience (strictly empirical) is that the black cats are smart. Too smart, arguably, for their own good.
I will dig up & scan some old photos of The Bear. She was definitely too smart for her own good -- she trained her owners staff very well.
Speaking of critters -- my son sent me this... which I found absolutely hysterical. YMMV, though, of course.
