All this talk about SDA makes me want to puke. Speaker technology has improved since then, get over it.

A lot of people here like what SDA does to the sound stage, get over it.

Probably quite true what you say, but this is a small forum.

Several dozen people on a forum that is dedicated TO the brand in question, is simply too small a sampling of the audio world overall to draw any reasonable consensus of the appeal of a 30+ year old speaker design.

A reasonable consensus is only needed by the amount of people that own them or have owned them. Percentage wise, think of Ferrari....not a lot of people own one, but we can get a good consensus from those that do, even though they represent a fraction of car owners.

Just digging into this.....that said, based on historical experience with the LSi/LSiM launches...they all turned out to be good speakers.

    If F1 isn't dogging them......they are legit.

Curious is it possible the engineers at Polk have figured out a single driver SDA instead of the usual side by side configuration hmmm.

The SDA properties are now done electronically by an algorithm as seen in many of the (surround) sound bars. I doubt we will ever see a purely acoustical type SDA. The crossover is complicated and the shear size of the speaker is not the current trend.

We can hope for a hybrid as was talked about at the last Polkfest held at HQ before Matt left. An acoustical and electronic approach. That was what...….10 years ago now??? That ship has probably sailed.

*IF* SDA has legs beyond sound bars, it will almost certainly be of the electronic type rather than pure acoustical.

So to answer your question; yes...it's been done (not a single speaker, but a few small speakers).

For Polk to make a speaker you all want, SDA's with great drivers and crossovers, you wouldn't buy them anyway because they'd be too expensive to make today.

Someone would buy them. I base that on all the outlandish, aesthetically challenged, and bad sounding (to me) five and six figure speakers I saw and heard during two tours of AXPONA.

The name of the game is to make money, profit, and you have to sell in volumes to do that. Polk's customer base is not high end buyers. Want a high end speaker ? Plenty of other brands to wet your feet with.

But that's the problem. If you are connoisseur of stereophonic imaging...once you've heard hot rodded SDAs on excellent electronics, other speakers, even high end ones, come up way short in that area.

I was hoping that Polk would one day branch off a high end division with a different brand name and market it properly, similar to what Toyota did with Lexus. Since Polk, or their corporate parent, apparently does not want to use the technology, it would be great if they would license it to another high end speaker company. (Wishful thinking.)

Some people like what they like and don't require validation from "the masses". I don't like something less because other people don't like it.

Agreed. Stereophonic music reproduction, like Ferrari ownership, should be based on personal enjoyment, rather than on what other people think or how many other people like what you like.

So I was curious, are these teasers being discussed on other audio forums? I did a quick search and couldn't find any.

I also looked at Polk's YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter feeds, none of which I subscribe to, and it seems like they're not getting a lot of play.

The flagship Polk Legend model photo has leaked! Apparently these new mirror-imaged three ways will be cross-promoted with a new, high-end audiophile Technics (Panasonic) product, both sporting the now-classic black and red Polk color scheme.

Note the nod to the hipster/retro market by including both MP3 and CD support.
Rumors are circulating that suggest the remote control functionality will be managed by a reboot of Zenith's epochal Space Command technology.

So I was curious, are these teasers being discussed on other audio forums? I did a quick search and couldn't find any.

I posted the original post on the new Polk Audio speakers and actually had second thoughts. I could've post the photos on other audio forums, but I figured I will limit "the damage" (Polk may not want such news on the new speaker line out so soon).
I just want to hear them for the LuLz.

This from the guy that thinks his S60's are the pinnacle. Hilarious!
Sorry, I was trolling. And those aren’t my main speakers.

    What are your main speakers?

One Hundy thousand dollar setups that can’t compete with $900 modern speakers. I would like to see pics of these setups he owned.

Or at least, name the entire setup.

The factory Delco system in our trusty old Pontiac Sunfire beats the pants off the Bermester system in a 100k Mercedes... ;)

    Love it
