I picked up a pair of Unity Audio Pyramid Signature Fountainhead speakers for $200. One mid had separated from the surround. Spent $50 on getting that professionally repaired. So $250 investment for speakers that went for $5600 in the late 90s.
These are the ones with cabinets made of corian. Apparently that wasn’t dense enough, because they also have the Microscan devices on the back of each.
These were very filthy when I got them, so I had to clean lots of dirt/dust from the drivers and cabs. The microscan devices I put in the dishwasher and they came out great.
The genius that I purchased these from decided to get a picture of the bass driver in the bottom of one of the speakers, so he flipped it upside down on his driveway. You can see what happened to the top of the cabinet.

Now have them in the main rig. Wow do they sound good! Wide, deep soundstage. Lovely tone. Bass is really good and plentiful. Tone is beautiful. In other words, very musical.

Awesome! You can tell they are quality. Late 90s was back when manufactures were making speakers that actually sounded like music!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Awesome amp, btw!
Thanks! I've been thinking that I could sell it to make some $$$ and downsize to a reasonably sized amp...then I make the mistake of putting it back in the system and my plan doesn't seem quite as brilliant.Apogee Stages / Apollon Purifi 1ET6525SA / Classe CT-SSP / Innersound Phono / Bluesound Node 130 / Oppo BDP-105D / Technics SP-15 w/SAEC WE-308SX & Ortofon AS-309 arms / Audio-Technica ART-1 & Dynavector XX2 Mk II carts -
I added a Blair Chapman 6L6 amp to the sunroom system.

Very cool speakers. Corian is very repairable. A quick google will get the top of that speaker lookin great!I picked up a pair of Unity Audio Pyramid Signature Fountainhead speakers for $200. My wife picked this JVC up at an estate sale. She's a keeper.

You have a great wife, if I do say so myself sir.

Switched to Audioquest Thunderbirds on my T+A DAC 200.

I think you're supposed to take off those plastic shipping protector things.
-
lol - I always wondered about that. At least I took off the plastic caps on the XLRs!
-
Definitely would change the dielectric properties of the cables. Removing them will reveal a whole new world of audio.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
-
One good thing about them is that they protect the finish on the connectors. As I was trying my best to install them without incident one end slipped out of my hand and clanked against the side of my cabinet. I was thinking thank god for that plastic cover.

Gasp!
-
That’ll buff right out.

Hooked up a new amp last night: https://boxem-audio.eu/en/stereo-amplifiers/10-170-arthur-4215e2.html

I gotchu! Will take some when I get home. It's not much of a looker, but its got it where it counts!

@VR3 Here you go:

It's pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Small, lightweight, cool running, plenty of power on tap - 210wpc. Completely silent in operation and in standby mode, which it goes into automatically after 10 minutes of no signal.
Very happy and satisfied with the purchase. Did I mention it sounds great?! It's a true pleasure to listen to. I'm planning on writing a formal review after I've spent some more time with it and tried it with my other speakers.

Where’s your Benchmark amp?
Put in the closet for now. Funny story, the whole reason why I wanted a different amp is because the standby PSU in the Benchmark was making a subtle very quiet high pitched noise. Since my system is in my bedroom I could sometimes hear this noise during quiet mornings when laying in bed. Got tired of having to unplug the power cord from the outlet to get it to go away.
Would likely be a non-issue for most people who have their system in a living room or dedicated room. And for those who don't have incredibly sensitive hearing.
But yeah, I'll be holding onto it for when I have a dedicated listening room. The Benchmark AHB2 is still an absolutely incredible amplifier and I love how it sounds. "Flawless" is a great way to describe it's performance.
But for a $3k amp with impeccable measured performance with no audible noise anywhere else, it's perplexing to me that the standby PSU in there makes an annoying high pitched noise.

Are you implying measurements don’t mean everything?
