Have started a new thread about the Phase Linear above...

Didn't wish to clog up this thread with my journey.

Installed a pair of Canare xlr cables allowing me to run fully balanced from Ares II > B&K Ref 50 > Ashly EQ > B&K ST 125.2!

Cambridge Audio CXC transport as source via KK DV30 digital coax.

Sound is smooth, warm, and detailed w/o harshness. Canare xlrs are sandwiched between Monster xlrs in the signal chain.

Thinking about going all Canare now. Really a great sounding low-cost cable.

Nice B&K! I have a B&K REF 200.2. Thinking about either selling it or giving it to my son in law.

What about buying Canare cable and making up Neutrik XLR connectors.

    Switched out a throttleneck.

    What a huge difference.

Streaming portion of rig. Switched out an Audioquest to a Transparent.

The difference is literally akin to replacing an amplifier from a a low level to high end in my rig.

When you get to a certain level of reproduction, the differences between what you have on hand that (in the past) didn't amount to much? Holy crap.

They do now. In ALL aspects and in ways that are unfathomable. With so many things...

More later. I am tired but can't stop listening.

    Tom

I replaced ALL iron in my home brew KT88 SET. For the PT, used a smaller power transformer. Lowered B+ voltage and thus lowered current going through the tubes. Much less stress on the tube. Better grid admittance. Sweeter sound. Current swings! Much longer tube life. Changed output transformers to lower impedance. Again, allows current to really swing! Lower DCR with meatier wires and lower DCR. Then, last but not least…changed my single 10 Henry choke “pi” type power supply to an “L” power supply using two ultra low DCR, ultra low Henry (800 mHy each) chokes. Added four DCLink bypass caps. This is a very fast (responsive) power supply. Everything is still burning in but can’t wait to get home to listen.

I bought Canare 4S11 Star Quad Speaker Cable, 14AWG for $1.40 a ft and the Neutrik Speakons were less than $6 each. I’ve never used Canare for balanced I/C but imagine they are nice. Now that I have gone rogue with SET amps, I only use single ended I/Cs.

Put the entire system through a PS Audio P10 PerfectWave regenerator. May be done. Except now I need a new rack big enough for this beast and an A21 Halo. Ideas?

Not my rig, per se, but did a little triage/purging today from my dad's collection. After testing, and attempts to revive, I threw out two turntables. One was a Technics SL-B303, and the other a Sony PS-LX340. The Technics SL-B303 had to be one of their cheapest, lowest-quality options...just not worth the effort. As far as Sony turntables: did they actually make any decent turntables? Good grief...I've worked on at least four different Sony turntables from my dad's collection, and only one has survived as usable. And even that one (a PS-2350) required some 'shaving' off the motor pulley in order to get the speed right, since it has no fine-pitch adjustment.

On a positive note, the Realistic STA-76 receiver pulled from storage today has worked like a champ!

Here is a pic of the surviving Sony turntable with the Rat Shack receiver:

Running the SBT (top right) through the receiver sounded very nice as well B)

Working (as hard as I can against my own inertia) to cull the herd.
The "New England Vintage Electronics Expo" (sale/swapmeet/fleamarket thing) is Sunday.

This is a moderately uncommon, attractive, but largely unremarkable item that I've had for a long time and, other than its aestetics, never really bonded with. Dragged it out, cleaned it up a little and I'm testin' functionality even now. It works. Looks like a lamp or two may be out -- I'll pop the hood anon.

Thanks! But now I've got to try them with the Kinergetics SW800s. I suck at this downsizing stuff!

IMO those speakers are small enough; you should keep them. 🙃
