The 55 was, it says, $817 (in current dollars) when it was introduced -- so, yeah.

In 1939 dollars, that'd've been free! Or maybe they'd have given you like, 50 cents, to take one of these.
Not to prolong the agony of my offtopic ramble

Speaking of cats:
I have never seen a cat act like the one in this video (same cat in the picture).

Prudent. I did, a time or two.
It was not appreciated.
That prancing cat image above -- that's a thing cats do to make themselves look bigger. We had a black cat, The Bear, who would do that, rear up and dance across the floor on her hind legs in that pose, tail and back fur puffed out. The funny thing was that, if she were in a mood to do it, all it took was to look at her funny, and she was off.
We called it "being a stallion", because she resembled a tiny, psychotic stallion rearing up.
Sadly, I don't think I ever got a photo of her in the act.
She was an interesting cat.

A long-ago friend referred to that type of cat behavior as “John Wayne-ing.” I think of that every time one of our cats does it.

He was passed out. 2 seconds after a phone call to meet some friends out tonight and he pulls this. Dropped the ball right on me.

I saw this online the other day. Like most Muskie fisherman they tried in vain to release the
old girl. She just wouldn't go. Beat the old record from 1957 by just over a pound.

LOL, I had a cat once that was like that. Daggum thing had me in stitches more often than not. She was CRAZY as a kitten but seemed to calm down a bit as she grew older. When you gave her "your look", she gave you "her look"....and then the show started and usually ended up with me getting scratched. Little stinker!

He likes to sit in front of the shower door when my son takes a shower.

As soon as my son sits down, the cat jumps in his lap, puts him in a death grip, and says "You're not getting away while I nap".

My first cat was black. I got her from the Humane Society because there was a mouse in the house, and it wouldn't get in the trap. Of course, she didn't catch it either, and I finally caught it in a waste can.

My experience (strictly empirical) is that the black cats are smart. Too smart, arguably, for their own good.

I will dig up & scan some old photos of The Bear. She was definitely too smart for her own good -- she trained her owners staff very well.
Speaking of critters -- my son sent me this... which I found absolutely hysterical. YMMV, though, of course.

Actually, I did. At one point I had four cats. If they ever got close to the speakers I went into psycho mode by hollering and clapping my hands. It only took a few times before they realized the speakers were off limit and ignored them.

A 10 minute timeout, during which I took a nice healthy
