Received the new Benchmark DAC2 DX. It came with the new slimmer remote---very nice. Got the XLR output pads set (10db option) to match my Parasound A21 input sensitivity, for maximum SNR. Love it. Dead quiet. The volume control is more predictable and sensitive, and led's flash as you adjust gain; this is different from the DAC2L.
I have 2 F-25's flanking my mains and I am done. I will never need more bass or more accurate bass. I'm simply done.

In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence.

Officially got the SDAs put away. Took out the drivers, loctite around the magnet, sealed em back up and stored them away for what will most likely be a couple of years.
I am still rocking out to these Advents though so at least I have something.

Came back from Cabo to one of my amps acting up so pulled them out and dropped them off with Rolland at Hi-Tech Audio for a refresh. Now I have to wait... So I currently don't have an amp or pre or money.

Yesterday I pulled the JBL S38's I recently picked up on Craigslist out of my main setup, and went back to my Synthesis 4306's.
For financial reasons, I reluctantly put the 4306's up for sale a few weeks ago. I love these speakers and I really stressed about selling them. As of yesterday they hadn't sold, and while I like the S38's quite a bit they are not in the same class as the 4306.
The S38 is a fun speaker to listen to, it is very detailed and open sounding with excellent imaging. However, on some material the tweeter can be a bit bright/harsh. I finally had enough and put the 4306's back into service and pulled my ad for them on Audiogon.

“I love songs about horses, railroads, land, Judgment Day, family, hard times, whiskey, courtship, marriage, adultery, separation, murder, war, prison, rambling, damnation, home, salvation, death, pride, humor, piety, rebellion, patriotism, larceny, determination, tragedy, rowdiness, heartbreak and love. And Mother. And God.” ~ Johnny Cash
You positioned those JBL alot differently than I would have... interesting, why did you do bass drivers on the inside?
The S38 was made to position horizontally, though it can be used vertically. They also recommend the tweeters on the outside for widest soundstage at 6-8 ft apart. I did try them vertically, but they didn't sound as good.
I guess it's a matter of personal preference, but if you google JBL S38 photos the majority of them are oriented the way I had them, and I obtained the best results in my room that way...

I set up a system in my living room again. These new Rosso Fiorentino Elba are something special. It’s been a while since a four figure tower really moved me and these definitely move me.
Me too. The originals were good but nothing that ever wowed me.
The second gen Elbas though are amazingly good. I even caught myself enjoying them more than the (GASP) Siennas. I guess it is because they are far more attainable for a mere mortal like me.

Yesterday I was finally able to sit down and listen to my 1.2tl's for the first time in over a month. It was an OMG moment and for most of the evening as well to hear the expansive and detailed sda soundstage once again. My ears were accustomed to hearing standard stereo speakers (khorns and ADS 1530's) which are great performers.....except when compared to the 1.2tls.

I am not saying they are better. Just more realistic from an attainability perspective.
The Siennas are still my ultimate goal but if I can’t have them due to financial constraints then the Elba is a nice compromise that won’t lead to a divorce hearing.

I agree that must be it because mine is just exceptional tonight. These 2.3tl's, Aragon amp and Adcom 565 just keep getting better it seems.
