    The service manual shouldn't be too hard to find, and it will (should) include instructions on restringing the dial cord. Antique Electronic Supply at least used to have dial cord; Radio Daze probably does if AES doesn't.


    Yes, it is well worth rehabbing those for a multitude of reasons, but that one looks to have had an easy life. The output tubes look amazingly 'young' based on the condition of the getter flash on all four of 'em). The Fisher receivers are extremely well engineered and (IMO) quite easy to refresh compared to some other, less thoughtfully laid out components from their era.

    Here's an under-deck photo of a Fisher 400 (the entry level, FM-only model, a bit newer than the "B" series) which I refreshed; illustrating (IMO) how nicely laid out these things are.

    PS The Fisher push-pull 7868 and push-pull 7591A receivers (i.e., 400, 500B/C and 800B/C) all sound very, very good, too! FM sections are quite nice sounding as well. Phono sections are OK.

    If those knobs are like the Fisher 400 then (maybe) the knobs have caps on the ends that fall of due to old glue. Easy pop on with a dab of glue.There was a place on Ebay that sells them.

    Yes, although we didn't put one up this year :( We do have a good plan for next year, though.

    I've only photographed one -- there are some good ones, though (there always are).

    I think I posted a photo of the one in the center of our village, didn't I?

    You know how there's this cottage industry of "clones" of famous and/or expensive amplifiers now being made in a large Asian country and sold for pennies on the dollar relative to their inpirations? (and that aren't really clones at all in any meaningful sense of the word?)...

    Well, I saw photos of one posted today someplace else* that I found amusing. This particular clone has gotten even less clone like, apparently, by now adding "VU meters". Interestingly, they do appear to be bona fide VU meters...
