Found this 2 .2 ft snake (Corn) running over my foot while putting some stuff in the recycled bin. I'm. Not afraid of snakes but when you grow up in the Mojave Desert you know what to look out for and you always wonder, hmmmmm is that a Sidewinder or a Mojave Green Diamondback? Turned out to be a Corn Snake.

Pick this up today for free. All I know is never plug in a tube amp without speakers connected. Also even though it looks intact there would be much work and restoration needed. When I saw back views of other 800B units on line I noticed two jumpers usually inserted in the rear RCA jacks, where I have circled in red. Since I also have the Fisher Dynamic Spacexpander (sans the spring thingy part used to make the reverb) the Spaceexpander may have been inserted where the jumpers are usually seen. From what I've read this Spacexpander was used in auto's, not so much for 2-channel. I remember reverb units for cars and some home use into the 1970's. From a quick look inside all the tubes are in place, but the wires (twine?) for the tuners on each side are not connected, but all connecting parts for them appear to still be there. This is a piece that someday I will seek out someone to prof. restore for me. I'm pretty sure I can find three replacement knobs for the front. @mhardy6647 (you know these)! Thanks for looking.

That is a gorgeous 800B.
Gorgeous.
The service manual shouldn't be too hard to find, and it will (should) include instructions on restringing the dial cord. Antique Electronic Supply at least used to have dial cord; Radio Daze probably does if AES doesn't.
Yes, it is well worth rehabbing those for a multitude of reasons, but that one looks to have had an easy life. The output tubes look amazingly 'young' based on the condition of the getter flash on all four of 'em). The Fisher receivers are extremely well engineered and (IMO) quite easy to refresh compared to some other, less thoughtfully laid out components from their era.
Here's an under-deck photo of a Fisher 400 (the entry level, FM-only model, a bit newer than the "B" series) which I refreshed; illustrating (IMO) how nicely laid out these things are.

PS The Fisher push-pull 7868 and push-pull 7591A receivers (i.e., 400, 500B/C and 800B/C) all sound very, very good, too! FM sections are quite nice sounding as well. Phono sections are OK.

Thank you for your nice comments and quick eval. I'll be sure to keep you posted on
any progress. These are indeed well built and heavy. When stuff was made to last.

The AM section should be pretty good in it, too! I don't own an 800, so I actually don't know

If those knobs are like the Fisher 400 then (maybe) the knobs have caps on the ends that fall of due to old glue. Easy pop on with a dab of glue. There was a place on Ebay that sells them... -

Thanks for answering that question, @boston1450!
The caps aren't too hard to find -- and I think there are modern reproductions available, as well. Maybe that is one

in other news -- the second half of October does not usher in the nice part of autumn in [Northern] New England.

We have had low/mid 20's over here. Hope to see a ole fashion New England winter this year. Love November in NE. Wouldnt mind a 15ft snowfall this winter

Have you and your neighbors decorated your yards, road sides, mailboxes... for Halloween again this year? Always enjoyed the photos you shared.

Yes, although we didn't put one up this year We do have a good plan for next year, though.
I've only photographed one -- there are some good ones, though (there always are).
I think I posted a photo of the one in the center of our village, didn't I?
Here's the "official" site.

That campus looks so much prettier than it did when I was there.
