That is a gorgeous 800B.
Gorgeous.
The service manual shouldn't be too hard to find, and it will (should) include instructions on restringing the dial cord. Antique Electronic Supply at least used to have dial cord; Radio Daze probably does if AES doesn't.
Yes, it is well worth rehabbing those for a multitude of reasons, but that one looks to have had an easy life. The output tubes look amazingly 'young' based on the condition of the getter flash on all four of 'em). The Fisher receivers are extremely well engineered and (IMO) quite easy to refresh compared to some other, less thoughtfully laid out components from their era.
Here's an under-deck photo of a Fisher 400 (the entry level, FM-only model, a bit newer than the "B" series) which I refreshed; illustrating (IMO) how nicely laid out these things are.

PS The Fisher push-pull 7868 and push-pull 7591A receivers (i.e., 400, 500B/C and 800B/C) all sound very, very good, too! FM sections are quite nice sounding as well. Phono sections are OK.

Thank you for your nice comments and quick eval. I'll be sure to keep you posted on
any progress. These are indeed well built and heavy. When stuff was made to last.

The AM section should be pretty good in it, too! I don't own an 800, so I actually don't know

If those knobs are like the Fisher 400 then (maybe) the knobs have caps on the ends that fall of due to old glue. Easy pop on with a dab of glue. There was a place on Ebay that sells them.Randy-Maine

Thanks for answering that question, @boston1450!

The caps aren't too hard to find -- and I think there are modern reproductions available, as well. Maybe that is one

in other news -- the second half of October does not usher in the nice part of autumn in [Northern] New England.

We have had low/mid 20's over here. Hope to see a ole fashion New England winter this year. Love November in NE. Wouldnt mind a 15ft snowfall this winter

Have you and your neighbors decorated your yards, road sides, mailboxes... for Halloween again this year? Always enjoyed the photos you shared.
-
Yes, although we didn't put one up this year
We do have a good plan for next year, though.
I've only photographed one -- there are some good ones, though (there always are).
I think I posted a photo of the one in the center of our village, didn't I?
Here's the "official" site.

That campus looks so much prettier than it did when I was there.

Makes the rig wiggle a bit up on top. I've set down lights on the arm of a few cranes over the years. Good times! -

oh, and might I just add... if I were to endeavor to say the words rig wiggle several times in succession... my head would 'splode just like those Martians' noggins in that movie Mars Attacks. -

Ya, the stupid contractors never want to do it when it's on the ground before assembly. Then they want someone like you to install them 350 ft in the air...Gustard X26 Pro DAC

Piece of cake.
It took me the whole 10 hour day to set and wire them
If you catch my drift. -
Not to change the subject, but I saw this Someplace Else and thought it amusing enough to share. I'm funny that way.

You know how there's this cottage industry of "clones" of famous and/or expensive amplifiers now being made in a large Asian country and sold for pennies on the dollar relative to their inpirations? (and that aren't really clones at all in any meaningful sense of the word?)...
Well, I saw photos of one posted today someplace else* that I found amusing. This particular clone has gotten even less clone like, apparently, by now adding "VU meters". Interestingly, they do appear to be bona fide VU meters...
... they've got the Dolby NR calibration point marked on 'em and everything.
Just like your favorite 1970s cassette decks.
Jeepers.
