Thanks. After a few attempts I settled on a coiled up blue rope light. A flourescent bulb added hum and strip lights didn't give enough dispersion. The rope light has been under there for a couple of years now with no problems.

Turntables are the least of my worries around here.

    Oh.
I do have one of these, too.
I got it for a pretty good price (at the time) and did use it for a while. It sounded OK and it looked nice (our kids thought it nice looking in a very modern, "Apple" sort of way). I was pretty unimpressed with the cartridge and it was quickly supplanted by the aforementioned SL-Q2 when I got a DL-103 for it.

12877794893_74ddf705f7_b.jpgTT15S12 by Mark Hardy, on Flickr

It's in its original box upstairs -- waiting for the Turntable Rapture I suppose.

I should probably try it with another cartridge someday -- that CA "Virtuoso Ebony" (which I guess is a tweaked A-T of some sort) is really, really blah. I wonder if CA actually sold any of them at or near their ostensible $800 list price?

In my defense -- like any good pusher, I do try to keep a couple of entry level rekkid playas "in stock" to pass along to jonesing would-be vinylista. You know, the first hit is free.

The Technics SL-BD22 is one of the best of that lot, IMO. I am outta stock at the moment, though. I do have one of these :)

N.B. the "clever clamp" shown in that photo is actually contraindicated on that deck! The headshell (more to the point, that offset mount thereof) bumps it before the end of the last track on the rekkid :( oops.

You know, I don't have a good photo of my AF-877 -- which is too bad since it's the one tt that I purchased new (from Soundscape, of course). It has served well and was in regular use until 6 or 7 years ago (in the basement of the MA house), when I boxed it up.

I should dig it out, fire it up, and take a good photo of it.

Meanwhile, here's a bad photo of it :)in situ in the ol' basement hifi.

The (barely visible) loudspeakers on it at the time were my dump find Allison Ones :|

    it was for me, too.

They were virtually perfect, too -- except (of course) the woofer surrounds.
Some punk kid (little kid!) had kicked in one of the (four) woofers, so I had to source a replacement. The kicked-in one was battered beyond reasonable rescue.

    Looks great to me!

Is that arm heavy enough "for best results" using the DL-103R? I must admit, I am not at all sure if the compliance of the "R" morph is as low as the plain-vanilla DL-103, but I am guessing it's comparable(?).
