Well I am going to disagree with myself. After I got my MIT cables I am now a 100% believer in that cables make a difference.

+1, just got a chance to audition a set of AQ Type 4's, wow they were nice.

This thread is still around, lol.

Why don't I ever get offered something like this? I want to be convinced cables make a difference too!

In all seriousness, I have not heard a real difference in any wire I've used, but then again I haven't been able to use that great of wire at all due to money constraints (being 20 and in college, money doesn't come in droves lol). I'm interested to hear for myself if cables really can make a significant difference, as reading peoples bickering back in forth is rather pointless and not all that educational since there are so many different conflicting opinions. Part of me wonders if the difference between the doubters and the believers is those who have cheaper gear where maybe good wire is inconsequential vs those with higher end gear? Or is it purely psychological? I don't believe in "measuring" sound, so the only real way is to hear. Out of curiosity, I was going to buy a pair of AQ X2 cables (all I can really afford to buy right now) to compare to my cheap monster cable but someone on this forum told me it sounds just like regular home depot cable and not to bother and to hear a real difference I would need something better.

I guess my reason for posting that is, i am very curious about the real difference between wires but am financially unable to buy cable right now, so if there are any more demos or anything like that, if someone could maybe let me know? I'll also be checking the for sale ads frequently here to see if there are any cheap good cables I can grab. I really want to see for myself before I form an opinion either way.

Unfortunately, I've personally found that experimentation (with different wires between your own specific components in your own specific environment) is really the only way to figure this out.

And again, unfortunately, that generally takes both time and money.

It's hard to get a Rolls Royce experience with a Yugo budget, but there are some decent Acura/Lexus cables out there that you may find a deal on if you are persistent.

Otherwise, work hard, get the degree, land a decent job, work hard, pay off the student loans . . . in a decade or so you will be buying cables.

Lol no he didn't; I know he's right. Some things do take time, and this is one of them. Having a hobby like this is something you need to work for (as most things are), and right now just isn't practical, with all the expenses with college and what have you. I guess I'm anxious to just dive in to this world of audio, being so exciting and vast. It drives my girlfriend crazy; I can just sit in front of my Polks for hours listening lol. And to think I like this system so much, and it is barely a scratch on the surface. There are so many options, so much to learn! But on the flip side, I do know it takes work and time. That's one of the reasons I like Club Polk; its nice to see all of the people who have worked hard to get to where they are now, and have great systems, maybe even the systems of their dreams. It keeps everything in perspective. I have much respect for those who work hard to get what they want, and from the looks of it, there are quite a few people on these forums who have done just that. It's just hard to be patient when you are so excited about something lol.

Anyways, cheers to all the Polkies out there who truly love audio and worked hard to earn their equipment and are truly dedicated to the hobby! You are good inspiration for us younger folk ;)

I thought Factorfiction was a new form of AUDIO mathematics...where you divide the thickness, quality and cost of cables by the wax that has not yet been removed from your ears and you get a number on an audiobility algorithmic index that is the inverse proportion of the wires' length and the lack of grey matter between your ears. This number is then 'verified' by what I call Double blocked studies...(meaning that you can't hear anything from either ear because they're both blocked).

    No..?
