    ***Potential Spoiler***

So I finally made it to the theater the other day to see this. I really had mixed feelings ahead of time. These types of movies are not my thing, but there was so much hype I had to at least try it. Plus even if the movie totally sucked I figured I could be entertained by the novelty of the 3D.

Overall I was pretty entertained. For being soooo long it seemed to go fairly quick. IMO the story line was a little weak. Once you look past the CGI and 3D, it's basically just another David and Goliath type plot. The Man comes in with it's infinate power, and tries to drive out the seemingly weak and inferior natives, and fails.

There were also a couple of things that really irritated me in this movie, especially when you consider the amount of money spent making it. The lead actor's accent was there one second, and gone the next. This seems really dumb not to fix, since in a lot of the scenes it was just voice-over work. It's not like they would have had to re-shoot the scene.

I also thought it was lame that they took the time to create futuristic looking helicopters that had 2 counter-rotating and articulating blades per side, yet they made them sound like your standard turbine powered single rotor helicopter. I mean really...that much time and money spent, and you get lazy, and/or overlook that? Just seemed kinda stupid to me.

To me the movie is worth seeing, but is nowhere near an Epic like many claimed it to be.

I didn't notice this...and I usually pick up on these types of discrepancies. Did the lead actor's accent vary according to whether he was in his human or avatar body, or would it vary from one minute to the next while he was in one body for an extended period? I know you said the accent was there one second and gone the next, but you might have meant that figuratively rather than literally.

I know several people who spent their childhood or teens in other countries, but later moved to the US. They either have no, or a slight, foreign accent when speaking normally. However, if they are stressed or excited, their native accent will appear and then disappear again when they calm down. I have also noticed the same thing with US citizens who spent their early years in one region of the country and substantial time in another.

The accent seemed pretty random, and no, I wasn't being literal when saying it was there one minute and gone the next. I just know at one point he was starting one of his video journal entries, and I picked up on the accent. At first I just wondered if I had not noticed it before, but then noticed throughout the rest of the movie it was pretty hit-n-miss.

Regarding the sound. I'm no aircraft engineer or anything, but I've been around enough to know that if those machines were real, there is no way they would sound anything like that.

Far in the future, advanced design aircraft might sound different, especially if they are flying on a different planet with different gravity and a different atmosphere.

The movie takes place in the future so agreed everything is different. I work around allot of engines and I can tell you for sure an engine designed or used in 2000, is totally different than what we use today. For example would be our Tier 3 and Tier 4 Engines.

Yeah, pretty impressive...not just a CGI/3D extravaganza IMO. Whether you liked the story or not, you've got to give kudos to the depth of world building, the editing and pacing all wrapped up in the unbelievable visual and auditory journey.

I enjoyed watching the movie and the 3D effects. I thought the story line should give credit to Apocalypse Now, “I’ll get you a case of beer”, Pocahontas and Lord of the Rings, I was waiting for the trees to attack at the end but they never showed up.

It's still Hollywood and just about every film rips off other films.

With films likes like these, I don't look for a plot or even care if it has one, it's all about the visuals and taking me away, away from here and it exceeded that more then just about any film I've ever seen.

Going to go back to Pandora next week, must go back.

What happens when you apply correction for inflation?

If you take inflation to account, then it will take another ten days to be a true comparison at the rate this film keeps raking it in. I would be happy with just 1/10th of 1 percent of the money this film has made.:)

Saw this last night in 3-d. While I loved the visual effect, which was outstanding, It remained a typical JC film, great visual, terrible dialog, story line, plot with holes. You had no emotional connection to any character, he's horrible at building characters. Take the movie "UP" as a comparison, great story line, the dialog matched, you had an emotional bond with the characters, thats a good movie. Avatar was just so-so, if not for the visual, this movie would not be getting as much attention, but then again,if thats all you care about,it's just right for you.

I truly hope there is not a very long delay between it being pulled from theaters and it's appearance on DVD/Bluray. If there is I am not certain they have an effective treatment program for the withdrawl you will have to suffer through.:p:D
