I truly hope there is not a very long delay between it being pulled from theaters and it's appearance on DVD/Bluray. If there is I am not certain they have an effective treatment program for the withdrawl you will have to suffer through.:p:D

LMAO honestly man that really did make me crack up. :D

I do love this movie, some would say a bit obsessed but hey whatever.

I will try to see it a total of 10 times before it cuts out of theaters. But I am not going to make it a main priority.:p That would be school. :D

Well a 50 dollar gift card to the movies for Christmas was used and I do not buy anything when I go to the movies other than a ticket. Wasted money not much. A film well worth the money definitely.

I truly hope there is not a very long delay between it being pulled from theaters and it's appearance on DVD/Bluray.

It's possible there may be NO delay. It should be out in 2D (in the US) before Memorial Day; it's rumored to be coming out in Europe in April. A 3D version will be out by Christmas--along with all the 3D hardware to blow your $$ on.

I rarely read any reviews about a movie or take to heart any hearsay about a movie before I actually go and see a movie (the only exceptions being almost unanimous "must see" or "must avoid" exclamations). I don't fall for hype--I either enjoy a movie or I don't based on "MY" impressions and experience and regardless of what the next person felt. I also typically never see a movie near its release as I can't stand crowds. I'll wait for a few weeks if its something I want to see on the big screen-I have no desire to be the 1st to see a new movie just so I can say I did. Beyond that I'll wait for BR if its not the kind of movie that "has" to be seen in the theater. I've been busy lately and when I heard that it was still playing in theaters and in 3D still, I just had to make time- 3D is not coming to my Home Theater anytime soon, so seeing it in 3D 'in the theater' is a must.

ANYWAY, I finally saw the movie on Wed night and I just have to say:
WOW! For me, that movie ranks up there as one of my all time favs. The CGI was awesome and probably the best I've seen yet. It was as close to believable, without being too obviously fake, than I have ever seen thus far. And being only 1 of about 4 couples in the entire theater was sweet too.

The world portrayed is rich, colorful and beautiful. And I also very much enjoyed the 3D. It wasn't as dramatic or gimmicky as I recall experiencing with some of the 3D stuff at Disney. I didn't find myself reaching out or ducking (except for maybe the flies), but there was just enough to add that additional layer of realism to really pull me into the movie that much more. I personally despise red/blue 3D glasses--but I love these polarized jobbies--I am sensitive to eye strain induced headaches and I did not experience any eye fatigue at all throughout the entire movie . The only thing I wish I knew ahead of time was that it was a 3 hour ling movie. I would never have ordered the Medium soda--I was dancing in my seat for the last 30-45 minutes of the movie :(:o

I also noted the parallels with the Native American Indians, etc., throughout the movie and also noted the ethnic similarities and roles being portrayed and the unrealistic actions taken by the humans (I mean come on-intelligent life on another planet and corp and military might just being blinded by greed or battle hunger and just being so overtly destructive with no compassion what-so-ever???? This isn't just road paving crews coming through to knock down a few houses for a new interstate). It was a tad irrational even for real life, but as mentioned by others, I also check my brain at the door and enjoy the ride no matter how real or make-believe a story is.
For me the award for a bad story/plot/acting movie in recent history goes to Dragon Wars, so as long as a movie isn't riddled with plot holes or piss poor acting like in DW, I can find enjoyment in the escape. This was nowhere close to Dragon Wars.
I'm really not sure why so many people try to find faults in so many movies out there for what's supposed to be an escape from reality-entertainment experience. I didn't get pissed off because I noticed all that stuff. I just kinda felt a little proud of myself that I am intelligent enough to have recognized it. I wonder if some of you would critique **** plots the same way??

As far as recognizable plots or bits from other genre's or movies/stories, there was most certainly a blaring one that stood out to me and it tickled my fancy. I am particularly fond of the Fantasy genre, in particular with Dragons, Wizardry, Magic, etc. (but I don't do conventions, or run around the house swinging lightsabers in imaginary battles or any of those sorts of things  ;) ) There is no doubt in my mind that the pairing/bonding for life between the Na'vi and the animals, and especially with the "banshee/dragon", is pulled right from Anne McCaffrey's classic The Dragonrider's of Pern series of books (which were 1st published around 1968). Dragonriders would be paired with a Dragon for life during Impression, and could communicate with them telepathically, etc. The Eragon novels/movie borrowed the same kind of similarities to its plot. Oh I long for those Pern stories to be made into some kind of movie. Anyway, seeing those scenes took me right back to the Pern stories that I would get completely immersed in when I was reading them, and gave me just a little taste of satisfying that longing, and in some nice CG I might add. It would be great to see some of those Fantasy stories I love so much made into epic CGI movies, as was done with LOTR, such as Dragonriders of Pern, or DragonLance, or Terry Brooks Shannara stories. Actually I might prefer a series of movies (like LOTR) or a well done TV series or mini-series to prevent rushing the plots and to allow for proper character development.

I'd love to do the 3D HT thing, but its not happening anytime soon for me. I'm still just getting the 'basics' HT going. I mean my damn PJ bulb (720p) burned out and I still haven't gotten a replacement for it yet. Uhg. Next big HT gear on my list is going to be one of the 1080p PJs you guys keep dangling in front of me.

Actually who knows--if the price is reasonable, and the tech actually works maybe--that's a slight maybe--I've actually never been an early adopter due to the high cost in the beginning , not to mention lack of selection. And honestly since my whole HT is really centered around a PJ setup, it would have to be a 3D PJ, like they do it in the theater. But I can't imagine the cost of a quality 1080P HD 3D PJ.

+eleventy trillion on the Shannara series.

Add in Piers Anthony (though that might be a little strange for the screen.)

Add in David Eddings. (In my opinion one of the best ever.)

Add in Robert Jordan. (Wheel of Time)

There was one more i'm missing.... i'll have to come back to this thread. I can picture the characters and the book cover, but not the author or the titles, go figure.
