Congrats bevo, I knew you were having room issues from your previous comments. Very capable subs can sound like crap if you're overloaded below 40hz masking the midbass. Sounds like you've got it licked. I don't use a room curve. I try to stay flat and run mine cold to keep the blend between my SDAs and the sub seamless. The 1Cs add alot of bass.

I'm sure my your SDAs have just a tad more bass then my A5's :). I imagine I'm gonna have to run some sort of curve to make up for it. right now I think I have about a 8 or 9db curve depending on how accurate my RS spl is. It's about where I want it, but it's hard to tell not having an eq to experiment with.

I should have the SMS-1 wednesday, but after getting my sub how it is now, I think I might have jumped the gun on the SMS. I'm not really sure if I'll need it now, at least though once it comes I should be able to get everything exactly how I want it, and get the most out of the ultra. If nothing else, it will give me something to play with.

For movies the ultra was always impressive, but I can't believe how much better it sounds now with music. If anyone still thinks you can just plop your sub in a corner and forget it. Do yourself a favor and experiment, the results could amaze you, just like they did me.

How does that sub compare to Polks DSW Micro-Pro and Pro line?

Much bigger, more powerful, plays much deeper and has various tuning options that allow for more extention. You can even seal it. It's recognized as one of the best commercial subs available at any price due to it's looks, features, output and sound quality. I'm sure the MicroPro 4000 is a nice sub and comes closest.

Hey guys just wanted to give my first impressions of my new PB Ultra. All i can say is  this thing is a beast. I played the tank tapping scene from finding nemo (with gain at 11 o'clock on svs and pioneer avr subwoofer gain at -6.0) I could feel the bass in my chest! I'm sort of afraid to raise the levels anymore but I can't resist.

I still need to tweak around with it though because when i playback music im not getting that same bass. Anyone with a similar experience? advice?

I have the pc ultra ,you won't get that "same" bass because MOST music doesn't have content that low ,like in movies. Pretty well all subwoofers sound more impressive/powerful with sound effects from movies.

Movies allow for 30db peaks in the LFE channel and they can be quite astounding. Music, as mentioned, normally doesn't go as low and are recorded much more linearly throughout the range. Also, you'll never be able to pressurize a living room like a car...should sound more balanced and cleaner though (in the house, not the car).

very true. I didn't think of it that way. However the PB13 bass is so crisp/clean as you can imagine:D

I recently read that using the ultra in sealed mode creates a better musical subwoofer. Any thoughts on sealing it?

I ran mine sealed for awhile. It tightens up a bit and the attack is sharper, midbass more pronounced. You lose some efficiency and the visceral low end, but it's still extremely powerful. I put it back in 15hz tune due to a couple of BDs that seemed to stress it at high output. Sealed works better in a small room. Mine's medium small, but with a large opening into the rest of the house.

    +1

I noticed the very same things as Ron.
For me 15hz tune is best. Sealed seemed to loose impact and I rarely listen to just music. Plos I also have medium-small room that opens to the rest of the house.
