I ordered 2 of these. Got one last week, and another is on the truck for delivery today. I will post pics soon. I am planning on stacking them. They are an amazing value, and I think they look and sound awesome, not to mention their customer service is the best around.

Bedroom setup...forgive the piss poor cable management. Mains are Paradigm Signature S8 v.3 in piano black, and the subs speak for themselves.

I've only used Audyssey. Room treatments would be nice...but my wife is already on edge. Better hold off a bit.

Room EQ Wizard is your friend (REW(free) hometheatershack.com). Once you have it set up and use the filters in the sub, then run Audessy. You will be pleased.

yeah allowing you to spend the cash on 2 ultra's may take the wife a little time to recover from.

Audyssey screws up my ultra everytime. It wants to set my sub at +12db.
it sets it high enough to make it pop in several scenes of the hulk and other movies. The ideal setting for mine is -5db. It drives e crazy because every time I turn on my denon I have to go in and manually adjust my sub level because audyssey wants it so high.
Audyssey also sets most of my speakers 2-4 levels to high or low. I like how audyssey set up my EQ for movies or I wouldn't even use it, but it always screws up my levels.

You need to calibrate your sub to be flat as possible before running Audessy.

After a little work finding the best location where I minimize the dips as much as possible and use the 1 filter in the PB13 to remove the biggest peak, running Audessy sets my sub at the same level as my mains.

Most people think Audessy in their AVR can fix all this but it cant, you could also use the sub EQ SVS/AUdessy sell but I find using REW and some time can almost achieve the same results but depending on how much your time is worth the SVS/Aud sub EQ may be your best choice.

man u need to put some foam between the subs (a riser will be great), ur 2 subs enclosures will interfer with each other in the current scenario.

I have moved my sub, fixed the huge peak at 50hz with the peq, and changed my room settings from large to small to tame everything under 50hz. It's like I went and bought an entirely different sub. I never thought that the room size setting would be so important, but it made a huge difference. It boosted where I needed it and tamed all the peakes I had. the only one it didn't do that much to was the huge peak at 50, and the PEQ at the maq strength hit it perfect.

It's sounds fantanstic!! I always thought my ultra wasn't that musical, but now I can't believe how musical it is. When I was young i had 2 of the top of the line JL audio twelves in my car, and this ultra destroys those.

My amjor problem before was I had a null at my listening position, but after using the putting the sub at your LP trick and messing with the phase I completley eliminated it. It's still 2 feet in front of me but where im setting it is completely gone.

I get my SMS-1 on wednesday, and with the one 5db dip at 70hz I have I should be able to have an almost perfect frequency sweep. Would a 4 or 5db boost at 70hz be too much of a boost. I've read to be careful when increasing db.

How strong of a curve do most people use with the ultra's?

Now all I need to do is start messing with a little room treatment that the wife OK'd, and it will be like I have a whole new system.

I'm glad I had so many troubles with this sub since I've had it, because I have learned the most valuable lesson that speaker owners can. Placement, placement, placement. I never really thought about room acoustics or speaker placement before, but it can totally riun the experience if you don't take it into serious consideration.

Thanks everyone for all the help.

Congrats bevo, I knew you were having room issues from your previous comments. Very capable subs can sound like crap if you're overloaded below 40hz masking the midbass. Sounds like you've got it licked. I don't use a room curve. I try to stay flat and run mine cold to keep the blend between my SDAs and the sub seamless. The 1Cs add alot of bass.
