If only I had 1300 dollars laying around. This is the sub I'm planning on getting when I upgrade my sub again. That won't be for quite a while though. Damn priorities...lol

That's the route I'll probably go whenever I get one, like 3 years from now...lol By the time I'm actually ready to get one, they'll probably have released a new model and have the PB-13U's on closeout(I'm hoping), for a lot less money.

This used one would probably only really be a good deal if you can pick it up locally. Once you figure in the shipping costs of a 170 pound subwoofer, the price is going to get a bit higher.

Why is it that the stuff I really want goes on sale on the East coast?

I'm with you on this...and I'm under Canada? I may have to become an honorary Canadian in order to get access to vintage gear. A lot of stuff seems to be had down South, especially Texas, out west in Colorado and California...and some occasional Midwest craigslist (I tend to prefer dealing with audiogon and Polkies rather than that and ebay?).

Having said that I think you could get that sub for a 'better' price than that!

About $400 less Awesome ;). Seriously, it's a great sub, they eeked another db or 2 of output out of the design and the sound quality, I'm told, is much closer to the Ultra13 than the previous Plus.

15Hz mode means sealing one out of three ports with the included foam inserts. So, there are only two port firing instead of 3 (20Hz mode).

15Hz mode allows PB13 Ultra to dig lower and bass is noticeable tighter. But the down-side is a little less SPL than 20Hz mode.

In addition, it's a little easier for me to get a flatter response in the 15hz mode. 20hz in a smaller room like mine is very dynamic, but I get an even higher shelf below 35hz that's hard to tame with the PEQ. That tends to make things sound a bit bottom heavy. I prefer an even response where the bass above 50hz, the slam, as well as, where it's musical is just as prominent as the deep stuff.

Very interesting, my buddy is letting me check out his Ultra-13
for a week. So far Im very impressed with the Slam and output
at the 20hz mode. I will try the the 15hz mode, my room is 16w x

That Ultra 13 has to be a Beast! I read a review on the Plus in Sound and Vision Magazine, and it got a great review. I own a pb10-isd right now and it rattles the house! I am most definetly getting a 12 Plus the first of the year, and I am very excited. I want that Ultra, but Geez that sub is huge! I think speaker geek owns a pair of Ultra 13s?

Excellent Info, Ron! I thought 20Hz mode is a bit boomy too. But for movies, I found it may be OK. Later, I added SMS-1 to correct room acoustics responses and use multiple subs to reduce reflections in the room.

I'm sure you can taste it. With all those subs and all your power, I'm sure your rig is quite a treat. My room is a couple of thousand with an opening into the rest of the house, but it doesn't create an output penalty the way it's situated. My SDAs running large contribute quite a bit. Running the sub hot is not an option without it getting too thick here. Actually, I prefer running it sealed...much better on my rig for both music and movies. It's just that the occasional movie stresses the sub in sealed mode. Duals would be better.

Thanks Ron! It's nice to be sitting and watching movies with all subs firing. My HT room is for 50% movie and 50% music (DVD-A and SACD audio). Even though I don't own any SDA, I've heard SDAs have a great bass too.

I also preferred to run PB13 in sealed mode but I found SPL drops quite dramatically in sealed mode. Some crazy (in a good way) AVS members inspired me when I was looking for subs. You know the rest how it went. LOL
