Still remember the day I got my SDA 2's in early 90's. Next to them was an SRS 2.3, clearly out of my price range. I was getting a new HK 690i. Salesman said would you take these SDA 2's for 1200. My wife about hit the ceiling, back then that was a lot to be spending for speakers. Still have them, using as fronts in HT, upgrading my center CS100 (or 1000?) to a new CSi5.

I've kept them in the family! My brother-in-law has my Monitor 10B's and Monitor 4's in his home theater. He was going to spend too much money for far less sound. They continue to rock on a regular basis.

Nope. SDA-CRS. Sold 'em because I thought SDA was a passing phase. Hindsight really is 20-20.

Yes, in fact I just picked them up last week.
They're a pair of Monitor 7C's that need a little TLC. New woofers are arriving on Monday. Eventually I'd like to refinish them and upgrade the crossovers.

    Purchased in the seventies.
They lived well until my kids became rock lovers, and tried to destroy them.

I think it is time for new capacitors in the cross over..

After buying my LSi's a couple years ago, I gave my LS50's to a friend. I bought the 50's in the 80's and they're still going strong.....served me well for many years, and now my friend's son is enjoying them in his apartment at San Deigo State. Very nice speakers for their time.....but the LSi's are a vast improvement in clarity and transparency.

Yes. Puchased my SDA SRS's in early 1988. They came to Dhahran Saudi Arabia with me between '88-95 and then back to the states. I love them and even have the same CD I demoed them with in '87 - Bachbusters. The are still in perfect shape. I power them with a 1993 Carver TFM-35 and have a 1988 Carver 1.0t as a backup. Now they are part of my basement home theater.

Model 10's. They have been in the box since college. I originally had a system with Bozak speakers that got liberated during a spring break my freshman year of college. I believe that I bought the 10's a couple of years later in 79 - 80. I haven't used them since then because one of the tweeters got ruined during a party at my house (beer spill I believe). My girlfriend recently asked me to get rid of them. I checked them out and both tweeters are not working. I wasn't sure if I wanted to get rid of them because I new how good they were in their day. After hooking up with this website I think I will get some new tweeters (even though there is alot of discussion about how good the new ones are compared to the peerless). It's funny I am no audiophile, but If I get rid of them, I know I would regret it forever. (Unless I replace them with some SRS's).

Have you checked the fuses in the back>> Both of mine were blown, and I just replaced them, and the tweets were fine.

Guess I gotta read up on the tweeter upgrades, as the one's in my 10A's are original. Same with the X-overs. Can anyone help out with info/schematics ????

Your 10's look like mine. Similiar tweeter...gray plate, semi-clear dome w/ hole in the middle.

    IIRC, mine are 10A...sn 10A 118282 and 283.

It would be best to get the specifics off the actual crossover in your loudspeaker. The values are on the components and anything not obvious, can easily be determined.

The reason being, the Monitor series is notoriously inaccurate when it comes to schematics vs reality.

Vintage or not and how long have you had them and what model are they. Give as much info as you want or as little. Pics optional.

I bought my 2b's (studio vinyl walnut) used in the early 90's for $650 I think. They are all original except I bypassed the polyswitches and added a capacitor to the tweeters. I use them the most out of all the speakers I own (about 6 pair, 4 pair are polks). They are part of my solid state rig where I listen to the radio and vinyl and cd's of course.

I still have my Polk 10A's that I bought eons ago (late 1970's) and RT5 sometime in the late '80's. Found the fuses blown in the 10A's when firing them up after a long "rest". Been using the RT5's due to space problems.

Now, I gotta think about replacing the tweeters and X-overs (or re-capping them). Would appreciate any help/info with this winter project.

I bought a set of RTA-11Ts at a yard sale over a year ago, they were my introduction to Polk. Cabinets were so-so but improved greatly with some work. I also replaced a bad tweeter with one from a Polk forum member. I still have them, although they've been displaced from my main system.

    Terffic posts!

I bought my first and only pair of Monitor 10's in 1986 in Charleston, WV. Everytime I go to replace them - nothing seems to sound as good; but I found some Energy Speakers (Veritas model) which may finally put my Polks into retirement....or not.

I first bought a pair of RTA11t in December 1988. I thought they were okay. They were brand new in the boxes and I got them for $290/pair. I went back a couple days later and got another brand new pair for $272. I used all 4 of those with a original Dynaco "Quadaptor" for about two years, and then sold all 4 to finance the purchase of a brand new pair of Carver Amazing Platinum MK.IV's in early 1991.

In 1999 I put a big addition on the house, and bought and stuck 4 more RTA11T's in there (actually one pair of TL), but I sold those around 6 years ago when I put the AR-9's in that room.

I've had a lot of Polks pass through here over the years, but I like the Carvers and the AR-9's better. I have a pair of Polks around here right now, but I don't know where, or remember what they are.

I'm curious, how would you compare the sound of the RTA-11t and the AR9? I realize they're not close in scale, but I always hear folks talking about AR9s but I never have a common reference to try and imagine the sound.
