Randall Bramblett - That Other Mile/Light of the Night
    Last House Records, CD

Some of RB's earliest recorded works (1975/76). He already had his distinctive style. Nice collection with both albums remastered.

Very nice work from the former Double Trouble (SRV) guys. Thank's for the recommendation Tour.
You're welcome.... It's a shame that the group imploded after one release.

saw arc angels in concert when that album came out. was lucky enough to win some tickets from the local radio station. only heard the song the were pushing at the time. something 'angel'? great show! cool to see how doyle 3 strings his guitar like albert king! double trouble were solid. actually met them outside the back of the place. cool guys. charlie sexton and doyle3 were great at trading guitar and vocal lines. now doyle3 plays with clapton and sometimes roger waters. i hear he's got a bit full of himself. sexton plays with and records with dylan. what about double troube? last i saw them they were playing with buddy guy in '04. i saw buddy a few weeks ago. i'm still talking about it! arc angels is in my top 100 albums;)

Little Feat - Down On the Farm
    1979, Warner Brothers - HS3345, LP

Rockin' with my socks off today to some great old vinyl from the vault. The new Bluenote table and Dynavector cartridge is breathing all the life back into these personal treasures.

Lowell George died during production of this one, and it remains my favorite.

    1979, Warner Brothers - HS3345, LP
    "Wee-deep"
    "Shut up!"

Not a bad choice in their first eight LP's, but I gotta go with "Feats Don't Fail Me Now"...

    On an even lighter note....
Buzzy Linhart - The Time to Live is Now

Unless you lived in NYC or NE Ohio, chances are you don't know Buzzy. However, odds are you know some of his work as he wrote "Friends" (a hit for Bette Midler) and "The Love's Still Growing" (a huge hit for Carly Simon).

I saw him twice during my college days in Cleveland, OH (once at the legendary "Smilin' Dog Saloon"). Great showman... and the only rocker I know of that played the vibraphones. To say Buzzy was "Nuckin' Futz", was putting it mildly.

Was and still is THE definitive live rock album IMO. I never get tired of it.

... Humble Pie - Performance: Rockin' the Filmore immediately sprang to mind,

    I AMG's "fillmore" ( http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll ) and was surpised by a couple things:
    1. The Allmann Bro's is out on SACD.
    2. The sheer number of Fillmore, east and west, releases.... 50+
    3. There are recent Fillmore releases, e.g., Big Head Todd, Lucinda Williams.

I did not realize the Fillmore West was back in business.

You hit the nail right on the head brother!!!! My first thought when I saw the Allman Bros Live at the Filmore was Humble Pie; Neil Young and Crazy Horse Live at the Filmore East. Peter Frampton really rocked on that LP. I wonder with all these re-releases coming out if any company would consider putting together a set of the Filmore East & Filmore West performances. How about Miles Davis, The Moody Blues, John Mayall, Joe Cocker all live at the Filmore East the list goes on and on. I remember when they closed the Filmores I was young and bummed out.

    Shea Seger-May Street Project

    e78303l1e9h.jpg

Though she does not look to be much older than the overwhelming (and underwhelming) horde of pop princesses in 2001, Shea Seger writes and performs with a much more mature grasp of pop history and musical technology. Taking a handful of styles and influences, Seger makes a powerful musical fist in which tight drumheads and technical tools warp and weave with contemporary and classic passages in a varied baker's dozen of melodies. The easily remixable club pop of "Clutch" comes across as Olivia Newton-John singing David Bowie. "Wasting the Rain" continues the Ziggy Stardust vibe with a "Sound + Vision" lyrical lick. "I Can't Lie" mixes Bowie, Blondie, Bonnie Raitt, and Janis Joplin in a down-home, hand-clappin' porch rocker which reveals the homey imperfections of the song's professed "perfect world." While "Walk on Rainbows" is a thin singer/songwriter poem reminiscent of Ellis Paul or Patty Griffin, while "Twisted" rips and screams with the full fury of Alanis Morissette. "Shatterwall" has sampled voices of old people reminiscent of Simon and Garfunkel, "Blind Situation" slinks along like a Talking Head between interruptive rap breaks, and the title source track takes more than a little from Bob Seger. Interludes such as the redundant (and greatly unnecessary) breakbeat loop "Rooftop Animals" and guest spots by Pharrell Williams (the Neptunes) and a Paul Young/Ray Davies-esque Ron Sexsmith further complicate the task of defining Seger's sound, but each part of this Project makes for quite a tuneful work of craft.

    Great stuff!!

Duets. Rob Wasserman and his string bass in a collaborative project with various artists. My fav is track 9, string bass with Stephane Grappelli on violin with a moving rendition of Over The Rainbow. Stardust with Aaron Neville brings back some memories fom the late 60's for me.

First class arrangements and production, start to finish. "Angry Blues", with Lowell George and Valerie Carter in supporting vocalist roles, is a true classic.
