If you think the RT55is are "laid back" then the LSi series is not for you. Because of the tri-lam tweeter in the RT55is, they have often been referred to as bright/forward. The Vifa ring radiator tweeter in the LSi series is thought of as being much smoother and/or laid back than the tri-lam. If you want something more "bright" or "forward" than what you have, you may need to look at a something like Klipsch or entry level B&Ws. I find both of those to be much more bright than the 55s (but not to my liking). You might also cosider speakers with a metal or metal composite tweeter to get the sound it appears you are looking for.

When you send in the warranty registration from a Breitling watch you receive a Ball Cap ( A really nice cap) and at X-mas a box of Chocolates.

I like the test CD idea, although that doesn't blow me a way, it is a little more of an expectation. Micro fiber covers for the speakers is cool. Excellent packing is even better. Thinking again about watches, many come in nice leather or wood boxes.

So lined packing, a reusuable box that opens cool and speaker covers would do it. Final answer.

+++++++Opps I don't knwo how I did this. I was posting to the new LSi post ++++++++

So Mark or KAB or anyone, when is the "V-Day" for the new LSI's launch?

Btw, I was listening to my 15 last night after a few weeks of break (my 15 is in the bedroom system, so haven't really seen a lot of actions lately) and it was as glorious as it ever be. I'll miss my setup when the time to upgrade comes..

I'm not sure but will know more at the Wednesday demo. KAB may chime in prior to that.

CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

That's the way it ought to be! I hope you will provide this thread with pics and a resume of that "private demo for insiders and hardcore press next week".

    +1,

Potential 'buyer' waiting for the Demo, here! I'm counting on that Polkfest Debut?

Until then, like TK says above...some quality pics would be nice once Polk goes to the Press with this!

I've been a fan of Polk Audio since I started in this hobby and currently own surround LSi system consisting of four LSi 15 and LSi center.

My 2c on what would bring extra value to the new LSi series in order:

    1) Sturdy, high quality see through grill - current LSi has pathetically cheap grill with plastic skeleton in contrast with high quality cabinet work and drivers

    2) Adjustable real metal cones - a la Sonus Faber models where cones can be adjusted from the top without need to lift speakers.

    3) Sturdy, reusable packaging - no need for fancy colors - just good engineered packaging with good padding and protection.

    4) Quality Polk audio logo - on the front grill and speaker itself (sans grill). Logo should be printed on metal plaque - current LSi polk logo on the plastic "bubble" looks cheap. This will be a minimal cost I believe.

    5) Cotton/microfiber speaker cover - doesn't have to be expensive

In my mind these extras will go a long way in improving presentation and add real value to the new LSi series.

Extras like t-shirt, history books, SACD demo while nice, are far down the line of importance if Polk has to choose between them and what's on my list.

edited: to clarify that I'm not asking for new Polk Audio logo :) Just that it should be presented on a quality material. Devil is in detail.

I agree with the edited version of the above.

I would enjoy a choice of high quality exotic wood finishes.

All the other trinkets are nice, and might delight me as a customer, but I will buy the speakers because they delight my senses or I won't buy them because they do not.

How they sound is obviously most important, and they need a look and feel of quality that reflects the serious investment. If they're worth the investment, then I'll be enjoying the speakers long after I've lost any t-shirts or cds, and that's what will persuade to buy or not to buy.

Fully agreed, I think this is the best formulated suggestions so far. If all of the above, it would be good ''news man''! (just couldn,t resist ;) )

Very good points here too. Focus on the speakers, not the toys offered with them.

+1 on the decent foam packing surrounds - the styro has got to go.

Some of the best packed speakers I've ever seen were AV123 Rockets.

Oppo, though not speaker, have an impressive packing presentation with their BDP-83 bluray players.

    Food for thought...

We all know how Fedex and UPS send our big expensive speakers to us. Boxes torn and battered with little doubt there is damage inside. Thicker cardboard or Double packed like audio recievers are shipped would go a long way to help us from the demonic delivery boys who are just hating on someone who can save up for something nice. Foam instead of styrofoam would help too....Thanks,Darryl

This is very cool , looking forward to seeing the end result. Love to read what you think about them, it would be even cooler if you have the current LSI models there to compare.

Yeah, and probably castrated too, just in case.

dorokusai please make sure to report your impressions as soon as you get a chance today. I think I speak for everyone here, but we've been waiting for LSi refresh for at least 5 years now. I'm curious if they will have center channel ready to go with the fronts. I don't remember how they release LSi series, but I think it was all together.

Hello Kab. How about a CD that explains how to properly set up the speakers for maximum listening pleasure that includes Pink Noise for each channel. If you could wing it, include a couple of carefully selected, well recorded songs that showcase the best of what these speakers have to offer. I would also include a "briefing / education" that explains to the buyer what type of amplification is needed to properly power the new purchase as well as an introduction to join us all here at Club Polk for further audio advice if needed. Wrap that in velvet with the Polk logo.

Instead of a CD, how about a DVD so we have some visual examples of proper set up and suggested applications.

Let's bring back more discussion of trade in......I bought my 9's new and would love the opportunity to get in on these with a some assistance....then polk can control the used market a little. Maybe they can set tiers and qualify returns based on the level of abuse/care that has been taken by the owner(s).

I think the latest LSi are made in China. Polk used to make, at least RTi series, in Mexico. Probably the same labor that would've made it in US, but cheaper. But let's no go there.

I would love the upgrade option. But I would think chances of that happening are slim to none since I'm not sure what Polk would do with previous gen. LSi. It's not like hi-fi market is booming in US.

That is nearly impossible, can you imagine the pricing with NA labor costs  Very unfortunate as IMHO pricing never went down to balance the cheaper cost of Chinese manufacturing and this apply to most businesses nowadays.
