Wow that picture is blurry. I just really noticed it since it's been enlarged. In any case the suspense in all this, especially waiting for the floor model, is enthralling to say the least.

Both the woofers appear to be that way. I wonder if they will come with the adjustable external crossovers leaning up against the speaker stands? Hehe.

The speaker is not hideous.....I've always had mixed emotions about the current LSi's. I never REALLY liked how they looked sans grills. Moreso the 9's than the 7's

As for the goodies....been covered. Bomb proof packaging (which has not always been the case).....decent manual (I like those sort of things).

Now, I LIKE the demo CD (SACD?) idea.....I have demo discs from Fisher, AR, Carver, B&W.....I like them. The Fisher one has some cool effects and the AR one has good music. I think that's a stellar idea. However, if it's in the packaging, well, you already BOUGHT the speaker. I like the idea of making them available in some fashion. Maybe even high resolution downloads.

Maybe if you buy the proto types.:D Thats a big board suggesting a high component count /complex xover possibly of the steeper slope variety.

The biggest benifits of the phase plug is improved air flow for better voice coil cooling and elimination of resonances that occur because of air pressure changes behind the dust cap.

Eliminating the resonant cavity behind the dust cap and improved voice cool cooling will reduce distortion.

In what way does that prototype follow the idea of that Canton speaker? Aside from being black, and being loudspeakers...I see virtually no similarity between the two.

    I'm confused.

Well Duh. Both are bookshelf speakers. How much more similar do they need to be?

I can see where the sides might be the only curved part. But looking at the left speaker it seems as if a flat top would then stick above the curve edge at the rear of the speaker. However, we don't see it. It might be that the two edges are coincident at the rear. The photo is simply too low quality to really tell.

I guess only smaller items can thus be balanced on top. I once had a guest rest their small-ish suitcase on top of my R50's. They weren't my LSi9's (hid those away), but it still made me cringe.

The more I look at the front of these speakers the more I hope they get rid of the silver oval bezels. I simply prefer the look of my 9's better. The 9's look like they mean serious business. I know the offset tweeter on the 9's is for a functional purpose, but it makes them look that much cooler. These look too similar to RTiA speakers. Not a terrible look, but LSi's should look better, IMO.

There are a lot of very good ideas here. Information such as setup recommendations, room environments and amplification recommendations are going to be incorporated into what we intend to be the world's first truly useful owner's manual. How "sexy" the presentation of the product becomes is really a function of budget, of course. As most all of you know, polk's mission is all about the sound; while packaging that clearly conveys a "quality message" to our customers is important, we may have to do that in an understated, elegant manner.

    Brett,

Typically when a company releases a public "sneak peak" of a product en' prototype form along with the assurances of it being 'right around the corner' for release into the market - usually what is shown will bear an incredibly close resemblance to what the final product will actually look like. If it were made clear that what is shown is little more than an early prototype, I don't believe the feedback would be what it has been so far. I know I sure as hell wouldn't have wasted my 5 minutes riffing down those three paragraphs.

Anyways, to avoid making mountains outta mole hills, I believe most of us will agree that there is a shared enthusiasm over what the final product will bring to the table. Since Polk rarely releases bad product, and since they've had a decade to engineer a better line, I have no doubt that it'll kick lots of ****.

    Yup.

Like spyshots of car prototypes or the iPhone 4 prototype that was stolen.

What we're looking at is probably very close to what the finished version will look like...particularly when you consider that cabinet design serves not only an aesthetic purpose, but a huge functional/sound quality purpose as well. There may be minor changes to the aesthetics, but nothing dramatic at this stage.

Ok. I was surprised to find that the question was being addressed by a Polk employee.
