New LSi

That's right. At long last, we are within spittin' distance of introducing new LSi models (not that I am eager to replace my LSi 9s).

We have been meeting about the packaging and more specifically about the contents.

For most, the LSi is a serious spend. An investment. A commitment to audio. If you were to purchase a pair of the new LSi bookshelves or towers, what would delight you when you opened the carton? Or to put it another way, what would blow you away? What would have you telling your friends?

Is it a leather case with a letter, manual, subscriptions, a cd and assorted swag? Is it a coffee table book about your speaker and Polk's history? Is it a t-shirt? Is it ...fill in the blank?

I want to hear your ideas. (sorry but cash or sex is not the right answer :))

    Velvet bags for the cabinets.

    Can't go wrong with a CD and/or t-shirt either.

The history book and a sacd that showcases them to their best.

Make the box open like a small door from the front or something... I always thought JL's white gloves and velvet bag for their subs was a bit over the top in a good way.

Hello Kab. How about a CD that explains how to properly set up the speakers for maximum listening pleasure that includes Pink Noise for each channel. If you could wing it, include a couple of carefully selected, well recorded songs that showcase the best of what these speakers have to offer. I would also include a "briefing / education" that explains to the buyer what type of amplification is needed to properly power the new purchase as well as an introduction to join us all here at Club Polk for further audio advice if needed. Wrap that in velvet with the Polk logo.

Seeing "Made in the USA" would blow me away, and I would tell my friends.;)

Personally, I don't care about trinkets, just put that money into improving the series. I suppose a demo cd would be pretty cool, to showcase their ability. Oh, and get rid of that mid-bass hump!:D:p

Are we talking a cosmetic update, or a soup to nuts redux? Will it compel current LSi owners to pony up for them?

I'd like to see a black velvet (similar material) sock for each speaker with the Polk logo on it. I'd suggest spending a good amount of time on the manual since it seems so many people have questions about how to get the best sound out of the LSi line. Perhaps it would be nice to see some kind of setup DVD or something included....and yes, an invitation to come to Club Polk.

I had heard about these a while back, and now that you guys are already talking about packaging I figure maybe now is a good time to ask if there will be in-home demos available for these speakers? I can see why the answer might be no, but here's to hoping.

A double box with some type of re-usable fastener instead of tape. The foam packing chunks wrapped in velvet (black or red). The speakers enclosed in a black microfiber bag with a gold draw cord. Super heavy brass carpet spikes, like one pound a piece. Maybe a "Polk Audio" neon or LED sign suitable for hanging over stereo rack or bar.

I'll be hosting at-home demos and we've talked about this offline for almost a year or so. The jury is still out at the moment but it's something that has seriously been talked about.

whats with all the velvet? such a waste to me.

Demo CD or DVD would be good, not sure you have time to pull that together.

History book would be cool too, again do you have time?

How far out is spitting distance? I am so itchy to get a new set of speakers.

Multiple demo CD's/DVD's would be my top choice. Perhaps a CD for each major musical style; "Rock" (rock, folk, country, etc.), "Brass" (Jazz, Big Band, Orchestra, etc.), "Voice" (solo acoustic, funk, etc.), etc.

The same reason your wife or girlfriend wears a sexy piece of lingerie rather than skid marked granny panties (at least I hope!). :)

Besides, the practical application of a speaker cover is for safe transport. It won't stop your speakers from being crushed or severely damaged, but it'll help keep nicks and dings that can be caused even with the most careful handling.

No velvet, but spend some money on good foam...not the cheap stuff. It will cut down on RMA's.

Also, data sheets would be kind of nice.

I would like to make the supreme sacrifice here and offer my home for such a demo and get-together. I would love to see the new LSi and compare them to the older versions as well as the SDA's.

I like the demo CD idea too. Maybe some swag, but try to make it LSi specific. Maybe a plaque to hang on the wall. I would be against a T-shirt since you do not know the size of the person buying it. A speaker cover for bookshelves might be OK, but probably most people prefer to showcase the speakers than cover them up. Maybe a coupon for savings on next purchase of new LSi speakers. So many ideas....

I can't wait to hear them. So what is improved? Any pre-release hints?

I completely agree...foam and better packaging along with a nice drawstring sleeve. Spendor knows how to pack a loudspeaker.

The ideas about set-up and document level stuff can be easily posted on the website. I don't think it's so much neccesary for the individual product aside from basic suggestions that are included already. I know that questions get posted as to what to do in regards to placement and such but it's not common. Just because a question gets posted here doesn't mean 10000 ppl are asking the same thing across the globe. It's just a speaker....not a rocket and our forum is a small cross section of overall sales, yet very cool, but keep it in perspective.

DVD that tells the history of Polk. I'm redoing my HT room so I'd love to hear" shipping next month" so I can keep my money in the Polk family.

Do you guys have an estimated launch date?

A coffee table book on the history of Polk.... I recently joined this forum, but have been a Polk fan since 1978. I purchased my Monitor 7's in Nov 1979, from Glenn Poore Audio Video in Champaign when I was a student at the UofI. Back then, many people didn't know the Polk brand. However, a really nice passing compliment came when I was packing up for home in May 1980 for summer break. I passed a couple students in the dorm hallway as I carried one of the speaker boxes with the speaker inside. As I passed by them, the one commented to the other, "Polk 7's are great speakers!." That was a nice compliment to my efforts in choosing a good speaker with lots of value.

They have been wonderful speakers and I have no real reason to upgrade them, other than my desire for something new. Actually, I am attempting to restore my old audio system. Currently my old Yamaha cr640 receiver is being reworked. I bought that the same time I bought the M7's.

If you can convey that emotion with the new Lsi's through some sort of media, I think it will enhance the new Lsi's owner buying experience.

Plaques and wall coverings are not going to happen guys. Think smaller, more cost effective stuff but I love Hoosiers binding post wrench suggestion. It's something that will always be used regardless of what speaker you own.

The velvet bag is a bit much as well but I don't believe that a nice cotton bag isn't out of the question. The stuff they use now always tears and is hard to re-use.

IN regards to a history type book, cd or otherwise....also not going to happen. That would take an incredible amount of time and as DarqueKnight can attest to, in his SDA Compendium efforts(Best Polk Tribute Ever BTW)....it's so very time consuming.

The idea is cool but it will take a couple years to get all that squared away. I've been collecting lits, pubs, docs and hard to find stuff for a few years in regards to Polk items....so it may be my objective to try and get all this moving. If I can wrangle up some support from DK....you may see this down the road but not now. Sorry.

what about a box with glossy print, rather than just plain old white box with the Lsi logo on it. Think a box that opens more like a suitcase rather than one that opens on the top (end).

I personally like that plastic-based foam (the stuff that doesn't fall apart easily). Double-boxed with glossy finishes should be good as well. Make them more secure for shipping and easier to unpack.

Spittin distance is pretty close. How about some details; price range, models, date available, etc. I am thinking of replacing my HT front LSi15s with PSB Synchrony Ones. Will the new speakers be at that performance level, but, hopefully, not price level. Is it worth waiting?
