New LSi

Never expect any price decreases when company moves manufacturing to China. Constant increase in price of raw materials, plus higher shipping costs erases most of the savings, leaving just a bit more profit. Which is the whole point of off-shoring -hence price stays the same.
But anyhoo, let us all go back to the topic. New LSi goodness. Extra goodies we want. And a preview by a certain someone who will have a chance today to listen to new models and report back

W O W is all I can say for now. I'm NDA'd until Monday but I have some awesome pictures and the press release literature signed by all the designers. BRAGGING of course

The design is absolutely ground up and you will just not believe it. The cutaway was amazing and their is NO laid back LSi anymore, although you'll have to deal with a STABLE 4ohm...meh 6ohm for most of the range but a 4ohm load nominal. Sorry 8ohm guys.
The bases and cabinet design, structure, bracing, etc....sweet. Mark S. really pulled out all the stops for a couple neat tweaks and even you xover folks should finally be happy. They really listened guys and it's using a driver array and a particular driver, or drivers that Polk has never used. ARGH, wish I could say and be specific. LOL
You know what the real kicker was? The new satellites. FINALLY a satellite worthy of wearing a speaker name. The best satellite speaker Polk has ever created since the M3....no kidding. They image like crazy and blend well with a subwoofer. The range should satisfy all price brackets and you should feel how heavy they are....secret later. Again, a total redesign and rethinking of the lineup and a huge departure from the pedestrian RM series to say the least.
Blah blah....I'm gonna take a nap.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

Your excitement has me thinking... Should I make my wife happy and put the RTA's up for sale now only to have her whack me over the head for spending the kids college fund on some new LSi bookshelf speakers and subs (and an amp to drive them)? I can hear it now...But honey, with the RTA's gone there is more room for those home-schooling books. We can home school through college and we don't need the money!
Never thought I'd look forward to a Monday.

Sell them now...and naturally I'm loosely kidding but make every effort to hear these when they come out.
I believe the sponsor demo program will actually come to fruition as well from the chatter at lunch today. We just have to figure out the best way to do it. What better place to hear a Polk loudspeaker and make a decision then at a Polkies house right? In a room that actually cares about sound? Stay on topic but keep that in your head since KAB mentioned it sometime ago as well.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? So, in your opinion, enough of an upgrade that those with the existing LSi series (with upgraded crossovers) should consider getting them as well?
i.e. - if you already had the RTi series and did not mind the box look, I would not have considered it worth while to upgrade to the RTiA series. Is that true for the new LSi's as well or has the performance level been increased enough that if you are looking for a step above LSi's - this could be it?

After doing a few pairs of older LSi modifications, yes. It's a waste of time in cost vs **** but that's just me. I'm sure there will be some that will do it regardless and laud the improvements, which is awesome but I stopped caring about that some time ago personally.

I gotta ask Mark: will the new LSis be available at the current distribution channels? i.e. BB/Magnolia or will it be only available through the boutiques?I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -

Just to make sure I understand you correctly:
You do not consider modding the last gen LSi crossover to be worth the time or money spent, but would consider the new speakers enough of an upgrade - that it would be worthwhile selling an existing LSi setup and purchasing the new LSi line (at retail prices of course because it will be a few years before these show up on the used or refurb market)?
I know you cannot speak specifics until Monday - I just want to make sure I understand your reply...

Correct and yes but realize, as I'm sure you do, it's just my opinion. I let the tweakers roll and push boundaries while I enjoy myself. Tweaks and doing special things while experimenting is the reason we have high fidelity so its got a ton of merit. This could be interesting. Ive been recently thinking of upgrading my LSi to something higher on the audio hierarchy ... looking at the Paradigm Signature line ... Ill see what the new LSis have to offer.

I can't accurately answer that as it's not information that's usually available to me without asking questions and becoming a nuisance, of which I am anyways at HQ.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Yes, current LSi owners will have to sell. The new line is, ironically enough, also called LSi, but will be entirely different, hence the decision to keep the name.
P.S. Put your gear list in your sig. That's what it's for.
