This is one of the last ones made I believe. I think 2012. SMD resistors mostly. Different amount of Electro's & Poly caps.
Mines a mess & quite dusty. Took it apart a couple months ago to get all the values (never had a schematic)..so I ordered & received all the caps about a month ago & just haven't found the time. They've all been desoldered & are hanging by a string. I have some V-cap Odams from another project I'll put on the input.
It's still a great preamp. I had the earlier model but this one didn't give me the gain issues the older Dared gave me. I've had a few tube preamps, the one I'm currently using probably close to $3k with upgrades & the sound of the little Dared is just kinda special to me. I feel like you can't find this type of sound or presentation in modern gear.
My favorite tubes were the Tungsram 5z4g & the German made Amperex e81cc PQ gold pins. I preferred the bass of the Tungsram over the soundstage of the Brimar rectifier. Rectifier really affects the presentation on this preamp. -

This is the Audience cap version. Would still love to find out what type of remote this uses for the remote volume control, I believe it uses RF (Radio Frequency) signal for the remote control volume? You can see a red wire coiled up, marked ANT. on the board.
Anybody here, can you look inside your remote and see if there is a FCC ID code inside the remote in the battery compartment and post it? That would help a massive amount. Thnx
PS: Its sounds nice and quiet with vintage USA tubes & 5Y3G Rect.

There are pictures on the net from days past where folks used a key fob to fix their original Dared remote. It fit right in the factory hold IIRC. -
Thank You HalfOhm for the reply, all the info and wonderful pic of the inside of remote; its very useful. And looking forward to seeing pics when you've finished servicing your 2000a
I've been going down the rabbit hole about RF remotes and programming; it's a deep hole (and not my forte). The Dared has the PT2272-M4 Integrated Circuit chip in the amp, and a HS2262A-R4 in your remote. If this is the case, then the key fob freq could maybe be 433MHz, or a 315MHz; but there's more to it than just the frequency, theirs data streams, output flows.....etc.
They're super cheap enough on the _Bay to try both. I'll report back, if one of them works. There are pictures on the net from days past where folks used a key fob to fix their original Dared remote. It fit right in the factory hold IIRC.
Thanks pitdogg2. I'll try a key fob, and if the preamp sounds as good as described with some of the recommended NOS tube & rectifier (I think I may have some stashed away). I may make a remote control case with my mill with key fob board inside.
