There is no replacement for displacement....

You'll never get any argument from me on that front. :)

Paul Klipsch once said something to the effect that miniature speakers would be fine -- if they could figure out a way to miniaturize the sound wave from a 32 foot organ pipe*.

Or words to that effect. B)

Sorry if this has already been answered, but was there ever a consensus on whether the L800 require a common-ground amp in order to work properly?

They do not need a common ground amp. However, differential balanced amps cannot be used.

According to Stereophile's measurements, the Cambridge was near text book in that it doubled it's output into 4ohms and again an impressive 430watts into 2 ohms. Current limiting doesn't appear to be it's biggest shortcoming. https://www.stereophile.com/content/cambridge-audio-edge-integrated-amplifier

    It’s not M10 but close 😎mmm, either a threaded tube bush to 1/4. 20. Or a mission for a friend 😛. 5hdnso6g0i76.jpeg

Sorry F1. Isoacoustics only supply 4 different sizes with their Gaia's so i am considering buying some 3/8 (Size of speaker thread) and drilling and rethreading the centre out to take one of the other smaller sizes.

Sadly,Isoacoustic only responded to which ones to buy and ignored the three emails regarding purchasing the necessary thread for the L800 being 3/8.
Shame as i was actually going to buy a third set as they have a purchase now (until 30th april) here down under and get $200 back for each set purchased.

@ptrooper How are the Gaia with the L800? Have you done anything else to them?

My latest change was a swap of preamp from a SS C47 to a tube C70. I have them active bi-amp with a 370Hz 24db/oct xover and contemplating pulling out the bass passive crossover. I can actually tri-amp as I ordered the active crossover with the matching polk frequencies (switchable between 2-way and 3-way), and since there is an extra binding post, use them for the tweeter. Only problem is how to power the SDA.

I have the GAIA 1's on my L800's and four isoacoustic oreo's under my bluray/pre ,these have been in place for around two weeks now. <snip>

Very nice! What improvements did you notice with those GAIA 1's over spikes on your wood floor? Assuming you tried spikes, that is. If not, what improvements over factory equip?

@gardenstater.I must admit the original polk spikes with rubber boots supplied do a great job!.I didn't try spikes alone!!!
The Giai 1's stopped the back and forth motion in less time on the push/bump test but they definitely weren't rigid as if coupled to the floor. They tightened up the bottom end giving nice depth to the soundstage .
The Oreo's under the JLTI oppo added subtle micro dynamics to the top end giving more air to the sound stage .My oppo 105d JLTI also has a few layers of dynomat installed! :p Inspired by a one of Dark Knight's post' from memory..
I felt the L800s really relaxed from 700 hrs +,they have 800 clocked in now.
When seated, our ears aren't at tweeter level !
With movies, the L800's throw extremely dynamic micro details as if they were coming from other rooms.
My "stock SDA SRS" didn't sound this good, but i didn't have the SRS from new so the original owner may have tripped them allot!! The tweeter protection would have shut them down at pressure lvls the 800's are doing comfortably.
The L800's do need more power but they certainly are pillars of sound like their bigger brothers.
I have recently rugged the wall and was amazed at how it also improved the bottom end .
    The tweeks continue .
