I forgot you had S*E*X! I mean... a S*E*X... umm, I mean... well, you know...

Same kinda deal, is the 6DN7. The power triode section is the one with the big heat dissipation structure on it (arrow). The other triode section is kinda wussy lookin'.

Funny Ivan I looked at that too! Again at the time I was such a tube newbie. Those are the only ones I have for this rig.

I have a few coin base 6sn7 and 6bx7 and I can state they are "unpleasant" to my ears.
Interesting, as they look like IMO, just trying to reduce manufacturing costs as much as possible.Basement: Polk SDA SRS 1.2tl's, Cary SLP-05 Pre with ultimate upgrade,McIntosh MCD301 CD/SACD player, Northstar Designs Excelsio DAC, Cambridge 851N streamer, McIntosh MC300 Amp, Silnote Morpheus Ref2, Series2 Digital Cables, Silnote Morpheus Ref2 Series2 XLR's, Furman 15PFi Power Conditioner, Pangea Power Cables, MIT Shotgun S3 IC's, MIT Shotgun S1 Bi-Wire speaker cables

They were so cute, I had to snap a few piccies.

Many folks dislike the coin base tubes that came along. Did you ever hear a difference in sound quality with coin base as oppose to the octal base?
Didn't listen to these.
Simply put, Thomas Myer (Vinyl Savior/Tube of the Month) puts the coin base tubes in perspective. There's nothing wrong with 'em compared to the 'normal' base tubes. -

Gas was 99 cents a gallon when I got my license. I could have filled my current car for a freaking ten spot. It's all good though, I feel for the oil big wigs. They were rummaging through garbage for meals, at least now they can afford Ramen now and again.

Yes I have to admit, I looked up the word osculate! Every day I learn something new on CP!

Maybe some day you'll learn what "CP" normally stands for.

Question. I've seen many brands of tubes mentioned on CP. Never seen this brand. Was this a company that just re-branded other mfg. tubes and sold them under their company name?

aprazer402 wrote: »Question. I've seen many brands of tubes mentioned on CP. Never seen this brand. Was this a company that just re-branded other mfg. tubes and sold them under their company name?

Because they're most likely rebrands. Sometimes, the rebrands were excellent tubes, usually not, though.
-
Thanks, that was my first guess. Did a little browsing. Several similar companies existed in the past. Some obtained seconds, washed off the original brand and put on their own. Back in the day, In NJ, "obtained" may be a correct word choice.

Not exactly some of the big tube companies made tube for others. You need to look at tube codes, it may say "realistic" or "Rogers" etc but the tube code number will absolutely tell you who manufactured the tube. 322= Tung-Sol 188= GE 337= Westinghouse etc.etc. then look at the internal structure of tube some are dead giveaways. type of getter and other things.
Rad-Tel never made tubes
I agree Rad-Tel never made tubes of their own. I had just read that some tube companies like Rad-Tel, back in the 40-50's bought tubes, either seconds or not, and some removed (washed off) the orig. mfg. name and re-branded them themselves. Rather than GE, RCA, Westinghouse... selling their own tubes, rebranded i.e.: labeled Realistic to Radio Shack... -
yes, all sorts of skulduggery in the electronics 'aftermarket', then as now.
The funny thing is, the off-brands can work both ways. One of the local gurus told of picking up some NOS, NIB "International Servicemaster" branded 2A3s for chump change... in the box? Rebranded RCAs.
(random, borrowed image for illustrative purposes only)
As to the EIA manufacturer numbers (which should indeed be on proper "OEM" Amurrican tubes, but will be lost on "washed"* tubes), an EIA code list is invaluable (which is not a synonym for worthless
) when playin' the vintage hifi game.
Here's the best one that I know of. In case any of you weren't aware of this/these.

Here's a nice little primer in the realm of speaker (driver) codes, too, while I am at it.

sorry for the digression

____________
* Some tube manufacturers used 'delicate' print on their tubes so that unscrupulous repairpersonages couldn't just take an old, pulled tube ('plinker') and clean it up with water or Windex, then sell it as new to an unsuspecting customer. Those of us who rehab decades-old, grungy vacuum tube hardware have learned to clean such tubes very gently indeed.
