I'm this old. Some of you probably don't even know this album because it's so old but it came out six days before I was born. Before your time, no big deal.

    heh. heh. heh.

first record I remember owning as my "own" (as a 45 rpm single) -- and it's even on topic with respect to the current subcurrent in this thread! :#

Yeah your old grasshopper  I remember when gas was under a buck. When cigarettes were 50cents a pack & no nobrand like today & you could save stamps up to get a bicycle or a nice tent or dishes. The good ole days. 4 finger dime bag of Columbian Gold for 10bucks or a Oz/lid for 40 bucks. Not sure how I remember this-but I domuuccvn4h8bu.jpg

Gas was 99 cents a gallon when I got my license. I could have filled my current car for a freaking ten spot. It's all good though, I feel for the oil big wigs. They were rummaging through garbage for meals, at least now they can afford Ramen now and again.

Gasoline was 99 cents a gallon when we moved to northern California (1989) :p

If we're going to talk about the price of gas, I'll really date myself.

I remember when I use to fill up my 68 Z/28 in high school with Super Shell it was 32.9 a gal. If I remember correctly you could fill up a VW Bug for a little over $3.00.

Super Shell was the only gas I could run that my car wouldn't ping with the timing advance I ran and it's 11 to 1 compression pistons.

The station 3 blocks from me had a FULL SERVICE island and a self serve one too.
There was a diesel pump off to the side that I used a lot.
I'd watch the Lexus's and MB's and good ol American Cadilacs and other BIG American sedans pull up to full service almost every time I got Diesel. I had to pump 50 gals. so I was there for a little bit and then paying for it too.

I was really surprised at how many elderly women would pull up and get the full service. The owner died, left the station to his smart daughter and she ran it for 10 years or more. Then she got old and retired.

She rented it out for years. They didn't sell gas or do mechanic work or inspections anymore. Just little stuff in the store plus ice cold beer. There was a used tire guy off on it's side in those 2 bays after a couple of months. The 2 businesses lasted about 2 years and has been closed now for about 7+ years now. It was a great neighborhood gas station like in Mayberry. One mechanic or the one guy plus an "inspection only" guy also.

That woman who inherited the station worked the store a lot! She hired a really cool lady to help her out but that helper got old and passed away after many years. The helper lady used to tell me stories of the strange people she encountered there quite often.

Little stations like this one was is a real rarity. They know your name and you know theirs.

I'm sure gas was 1.00gal. or less back in this stations early days. Oh, and they had the air hose ran from the shop, underground, out to between the pumps on the full service island. There was a self-winding reel under a SS plate. I must've used that air-hose a hundred times over the years. :D

This is Buddy & Champ. I dont have any pets. When we have outdoor movie nights in the spring summer n fall up to camp we crank up the grill & cook away. I always hook them up. Great dogs. When I first met buddy a few years back I was scared shitless. He is about 80lbs & at that time he didnt know me. Now he is my best friend & he sits next to me. He is getting up there in age & is slowing down. But he still loves burgers & movie night. Just dont forget the food. When I'm not at camp. Ever time he goes by my camp Buddy whines like a baby 6fvhkct8zicl.jpg

I think he is Pit Mastiff. He is big. He knocked over Champ just after this picture was taken & Champ fell of porch & broke his leg. Was in cast for months. Poor pup. Chick magnet 4 sure. Cute as heck. Buddy doesnt care. Big n gommy. I've seen his lips quivering when he is mad. He means business. He can be nasty if some other dog messes with his dog dish or food.... This is a funny situation. We had pizzas one night & I put the 1/2 finished pizza box in Phil's truck. Then I opened the rear 4dr & told Buddy to get in. Up he went. I shut the door & I went to get in truck on passenger side & Buddy had scoffed 2 slices by the time I climbed up into the truck. Lmao. He is quick when it comes to food. Food is not safe with him
