That last scene where Jaime notices Bran sitting there just looking at him has turned into 4,000 memes on my kid's social media.

I liked the lead up where Sam asked Bran what he was doing sitting out in the cold and he replies "Waiting for an old friend."

Waited almost 2 years for this?!? Disappointing first two episodes so far... I expected some setup, but not two episodes worth.

The pacing of the first two episodes seemed extremely slow and deliberate. Guess they are going for a different "style" for them.

I enjoyed both episodes a lot. Action - no, but a lot of interaction, which was interesting and, I think, necessary. I loved seeing the reactions many of the characters had when they encountered people from their past. Many of whom tried to kill each other previously.

Starting next episode, I assume it's going to be nothing but action the rest of the way.

There are lots of loose ends to tie up before people start dropping like flies. First two episodes were good so far, we got a lot of situations done and over with. Time for the action, I have a feeling the battle will be two episodes worth of time.

I respectfully disagree. What has made GOT the massive success that it is, is the deliberate and extensive development of the characters. The re-connections in the past two episodes were outstanding, and the dialogue is every bit as rich as I have come to expect. Like a fine prime-rib dinner, we know the main course is coming - savor the appetizer

Also, I'm pretty sure the producers are doing the extensive set-up just to twist the knife that much harder, when they start killing people off in the next 4 episodes...

I agree 100% on the extensive character development making the series a success. Actually, my favorite episodes were the ones spent developing the characters and their relationships (like the episodes with Jamie and Brienne traveling King's Road, or the entire trek of Aria with the Hound, about any involving Tyrion and his 'relationships' (Bronn, Jorah, Varys, Shae), Ned Stark and Robert Barathian, and the complexity of characters such as Olenna Tyrell, Tormund, Joffrey, Davos, the Sand Snakes, Ramsey, etc.). The action/battle scenes & episodes are OK, but to me, not what makes the series great. I honestly believe that it's all the special effects, expensive shoots, etc. that has dragged the wait for 6 more episodes to almost 2 years. I'm expecting a little too much effort to have been invested in the 'battle' scenes and special effects, and not enough into the other episodes.

To me, the first two episodes seemed dumbed down (I get it... it's been a LONG time, so they felt they needed to re-introduce the audience to a lot of characters), and "happy, happy, joy, joy". Seems like everyone is 'making up', getting along too good, and just loving each other a little too much. Feel like so much more could have been done with the scene with Tyrion, Jamie, Davos, Brienne, etc. around the fire drinking.

I liked the outline of the first two episodes, just seemed like so much more could have been done to make them better is all. Still loving the series, just worried that the complex, quality storyline episodes are going to be overshadowed by the action episodes. I'm feeling like they invested 95% of their efforts into the upcoming battle episodes, and then the remaining 5% into the developing episodes. Maybe I need to re-watch the first two episodes again... Maybe I just judged the entirety of the first two episodes on the completely ridiculous joyride on the dragons, and Aria 'getting jiggy' with Gendry!
  • daddyjtdaddyjt Posts: 1,043
Agreed, the dragon-ride scene was forced and unnecessary.
I thought Breann’s knighting scene was one of the most powerful in the series. Also, Sam presenting his family sword to Jorah was pretty moving.

I hope in the (presumably two) battles coming (Winterfell vs White Walkers, and whomever advances out of that bracket vs King’s Landing) are not non-stop CGI action/fight sequences, and we still get some “meat” in the form of character interaction and dialogue...

Extensive character development was a hallmark of the books. And once that was done a gruesome death would often follow. >:)

What seemed out of sorts was that Bran and Jon were telling everyone that "there's no time for that!" and then Jon and the Dragon Mama take a love ride to a waterfall and start making out. I was expecting the Night King to descend upon them right there and then in their moment of weakness. Lol.

Think my sarcasm went undetected. I got the gist of the episode, and I liked it. I just hate how dark action movies/shows are anymore. Why do we invest in great AV gear only to watch content that is so dark, you can't see what's going on, or who's involved. I get the fact that it's night, it's dark, it's chaotic, it's fast-paced, etc., but at least film it so that the audience can SEE it. The episode was so action packed, and FAST, that you needed to see some details. We found ourselves constantly rewinding, pausing, using slow motion, etc., just to see what happened, or who was involved.

Additionally, everything was so dark and gray/blue, that it might as well have been in black and white. Save for the flames, there was no color in the episode - it was 51 shades of gray. I can sort of live with this for the mood setting, but come on Hollywood, lighten up (literally)!

Maybe I'm gettin' old, LOL. Although our 16-year old complained just as much that it was too dark.

Seriously though, I enjoyed the episode and the true sense of fear that all the characters had at the onset.
I really liked how Aria used the move that impressed Brienne so much as the death strike on the Night King!
  • joecoulsonjoecoulson Posts: 3,448
I’m not sure if I’m lucky or just knew to have all ambient lights off or if my setup is that good, but the quality of the picture was amazing. Yes dark, but no subtle details were lost. Maybe a little to realistic for some in a night battle? IDK
But that last kill scene when Arya killed the Night king was brilliant. No Snow, or Dani or anyone else. Had to be her.
Best episode yet I agree with @recoveryone

I liked that it was so dark, it put us in the shoes of those who were at the battle. We could barely see, they could barely see. I would get thrown out of immersion if I could clearly see what was happening but the characters couldn't. Just put your TV on Dynamic mode to brighten it up.

Great episode, that first charge from the wight army was downright terrifying. Of course it had to be Arya, she IS the most BA of them all. I just like how she went from little girl Arya like episode 1 to remembering all her training and how BA she really is.

To steal a comment from Reddit "Next Episode Cersei and her giant army vs 2 dragons and 12 soldiers." LOL
