Though I only have entry level gear and entry level wires (acoustic research 10 gauge with bananas) I feel that they still give me a more solid connection to both the avr and speakers. I honestly don't know if they make a difference other than the mental thoughts that it does. Someday when I'm not fresh out of school and working for jack crap I will get better stuff and better cables... until then, I have no idea.

Not to call your baby ugly, but AR cables suck real bad. You would be better off going the the auto section of Wal Cheese and getting the 14ga speaker wire there. I know I have had them.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

I respect your opinion because I assume you have a lot nicer stuff than I. However, I disagree that the walmart auto cables would be better. I mean... being an **** and assuming that the mumbo jumbo of "oxygen free" and "twisted copper" mean anything, I don't know how these cables could be worse. With a more firm connection and being sealed away from the elements I can't imagine they are doing more harm than good compared to my self terminated 12 awg wire from lowes. For 3 25 foot cables that I paid under 50 bucks for on ebay I don't think I've done too badly for myself.

Oh, and I'm sure when I have a baby... it will be ugly... Seinfeld baby ugly ;)

Grimmace, did you get the AR Master Series cables or whatever with the flex tips? I'm using a 10g set of those, and i'm pretty happy with them for the time being, and i know a few others on here are too.

I'm sure i'll upgrade at some point in the next or so, but i'm definitely not disappointed by them.

This thread is great! It's like a infectious disease that is endemic to a community (Club Polk). It flares up from time to time and then dies down, but never completely dies out! Then out of the blue, a random event brings it back out into the open ... like a query where Burnt Umber flat paint can be found!

What do you mean? Every time any of us 'closes' his/her eyes and listens to their system it IS a blind test.

i'm currently in the middle of a debate on whether "better" cables are worth the money. i feel at some point there's a difference, but i can't condone spending my whole wad on the cables. hell, i just saw a used set on audiogon at the asking price of $7,500. i thought it was a misprint so i looked up the brand and to my surprise they are $24,500 new. come on now.

If you don't have them already, room treatments will give you a bigger increase in sound quality per dollar than cables.

It's been a while since I posted in this very serious thread.

Ok, maybe still a bit skeptical, but my ears are telling me there's a difference. Screw what my brain thinks...

My testing has revealed that some cables sound the same and some sound different. Some sound better and some sound worse. Some sound bright and some sound dull. Some look pretty and some look manly. Some fit well and some dont' fit at all. And finally, some cables are longer than others.

I think I've stopped caring about cables altogether.

I've got some decent IC's...some decent speaker cables. I think I'm good on cable upgrades for the next 5-10 years or so.

Maybe once I've got the rig of my dreams, with a fully acoustically treated listening area, I'll worry about squeezing that last little .000001% of performance out with better cables.

I'd rather spend the money on a really big bag of..."stuff". That's going to make more of an improvement than any cables ever will.;)

I've been listening to my vintage rig a lot recently, so I don't need to worry about high end cables anyways because most won't fit in the Sansui's small speaker outputs lol.
