With MIT, are they really cables in the truest sense? I mean those things have a monster LCR network just sitting there in the middle. Could there be another term other than 'cable'. I bet the Germans have a word for it. They cook up words for everything.
My real problem is for that kind of money I would rather buy beer brewing equipment. Yes, the one thing I like more than audio: Brewing. -

Sounds like a good explanation to me Freddy, lol. Curt is usually behind most of the hijinks here, lol. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some MIT's as well, IIRC Ricardo has a demo going here for a set of them. Not that it would make a huge diff. in my humble setup probably, lol. I am currently waiting on a set of AQ Type 4's that should be on the way to my house, another demo here at Club Polk.

Seriously... this thread reminds me of the time when the Forum was considering a Flaming/Debate sub-forum several years back. I suppose it finally came to fruition. The contestants seem to change, but the school yard **** remains in high gear.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Question, what is it with non-cable believers that run 'moderate to hi-fi' gear that they can't afford to spend a few bucks on some quality cables? Ignorance scales that much huh.....I think they're only hurting themselves.Truck setup

Why would we? If you can't hear a difference between product A and product B, but Product A is $50 and Product B is $100, you would logically go with Product A. It is illogical to go for a more expensive product that offers identical performance. -
It is logical to save more money if you indeed didn't hear any results, or better yet results you were happy with. Some of these 'audiophiles' though don't give quality cables a chance, that's who I was aiming at.Truck setup

This discussion definitely proves it! I am convinced that if they were to increase substantially the price of white van speakers, many would fall for it: "You get what you pay for"

Same could be said on those who haven't tried pricier cables. They don't believe there will be a difference, and therefore see no reason to spend the additional coin. From their perspective anyone who does and believes they hear a difference is a fool, from your perspective they are cheap and ignorant.
Since neither ever changes there perspective these threads have no point beyond comical value. But that's just IMO YMMV.Hey. sure isn't everyone that shares that logic

Price anchoring works for plenty of products, actually white van speakers are a perfect example. They show a fancy brochure with a $2500 price, then you can get them right then and there for only $500. You are anchored to the higher price, and believe you are getting quite the deal.
Kinda like how store put their most expensive products out front, go look at the end caps of a Best Buy for a good example, always the "best" TVs. Of course they don't plan on selling you that TV, they just anchor you at that price and then sell you the less expensive (yet more profit) next down model.
Same could be said about cables, have a top of the line model that sells for $$$$ that next to no one buys, then the $200 interconnects don't seem as expensive. I mean they have many of the features of the higher end wires, "90% of the performance for 20% of the price" kind a deal. -
I'm not sure I follow the "White Van" logic.
To my knowledge, "White Van" cables don't have a great reputation, so I don't believe people would rush pay $500 to a vendor selling out of one, no matter what price tags their products bear.
On the other hand, name brands command high prices because many willingly pay those prices. The products are repeatedly deemed as being worth those prices.
It's up to you to determine how you are willing to pay for any given cable, but not how I should bge willing to pay. It's essentially an auction, and I will pay as much as I see fit if I believe I am getting a benefit.
The key is, most use personal listening to make the determination, not price anchoring.VTL ST50 w/mods / RCA6L6GC / TlfnknECC801S

Never heard of White Van cables. I thought we were talking about White Van Speakers.
The White Van Speaker Scam usually has brochures or advertisements showing that the speakers they have sell for big money, usually $2k+. They offer to sell it to you for a paltry $500. You know nothing about the speakers beyond what they tell you, but many will buy based on the thought that they are getting $2k speakers for $500, they must be good for $2k. Another example would be Bose.
Maybe you personally don't buy based price anchoring, but many do, that's the reason they do it. Flip open any audio advisor catalog and I can guarantee you will see some high priced AudioQuest speaker cable on the same page as some that are priced at 20-30% the price. You see the high priced ones first, then the cheaper ones, and then the ole "90% of the performance) spiel.
As for it not being about price anchoring, I didn't say it was. You said: "if they were to increase substantially the price of white van speakers, many would fall for it". I think the crazy prices are just part of the equation. I would say that VERY few actually buy based on personal experience. You probably meant most on CP, but your average consumer is not very informed.
And before a bunch of people jump in and say they don't buy based on price, the plural of anecdote is not statistic, nor are we all the "average" consumer. -

Good points. I think I was sleepy when I posted last night. You are right that CP members are better equipped, and somehow Bose manages to thrive too so there must be many who don't listen first to maximize the impact of their buying dollars.VTL ST50 w/mods / RCA6L6GC / TlfnknECC801S
