That bad and worse. Gary keeps telling me about a battery powered pre that beats the MLP and that's why he discontinued it. I can't even imagine the sonic difference between the MLP and the BP one....

Ask SolidSqual about the battery pre.

    Good / Bad?

I'm sure it depends on the gear but it sounds like it is quiet as a feather falling from the sky. [My words, not his].

Batteries are for vibrators. Big multi driver vibrators:D I have been playing with batteries on my pre, and the noise floor dropped a bit, but held the dynamics. Vocals are a little sweeter. I gots to get up there, and you need to get down here:)
Edit: Also improved the localization of the sound stage.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

Tom, those speakers have the two big woofers on the low posts and the two mids plus the tweeter in the highs posts. I had them bi-amped with two TAD-60's for a while and they sounded very, very good. I only changed that because I couldn't stand two tubed amps in my little room. Go for it.

That's serious. I think Russman is using the BP Dodd but I haven't seen him around here for a while.

I will try it with the one Anthem1 amp I have now. If it doesn't perform the "magic", I'll consider the second Anthem1 amp in the loop. While the system is down? I'm just considering the options.

You recall correctly George. The C-16 is up for sale and the Dodd MLP should be back sometime this week, if not early next week.

I'll get pic's up when the Dodd returns. Right now I'm missing my Anthem1 [currently on loan to Trey] and the Dodd so a pic wouldn't do the rig justice right now. Trey, if you are reading this.......your days are numbered with the Anthem1. I hope for you Klaus has been working hard for ya'. ;)

Man, this place is great. I just received a PM from Mr. George Daniel about another Anthem1 amp on the 'gone. I went ahead and contacted the seller with the offer right after I saw the link so, hopefully by tonight I'll have the second Anthem1 on the way! :D:D:D

I love it when a plan comes together...

    Tom

How does that Anthem tube amp sound? Wanting to get into tubes and $400 seems like a nice way to start on a budget. Was looking at the Manley Stingray.

How does the Anthem compare to other tubes amp in the $1000 pirice point?

    Thanks

Hello Leroy. The Manley Stingray is a beautiful sounding amp. I heard it down at PF'07 paired with some SDA speakers, switching between F1nut's "hot rod" Jolida and the Rega Apollo.

The Anthem1 would be what I would call "unexpected". It only has 40 watts but it damn sure doesn't sound like it as it has some real muscle behind it. Responds very well to tube rolling, even just changing the rectifier tube [I think that's what it's called] can make it sound like another amp. It's clean and detailed across the entire spectrum with no lack of the lower registers whatsoever.

While I can attest to the few sub 1K amps that I have heard, other folks that have or have had the Anthem1 may have more experience than I when it comes to comparing it to other sub 1K tube amps. It seems that the tube amps I have heard, they all fall sub $600 or above 2K. I can't recall auditioning any tube amps in between, unfortunately.

The Anthem will run with the the smaller VTL's,Quicksilvers,, although maybe not as articulate,,it's damn close--for 400.00,, buy em all day,, there is a cap mod that is relatively inexpensive, which puts it to an entire new level,, and I've never heard one sound bad with sda's.Throw in a set of NOS Moolards,,or some 6CA7's,, and yeah,,it'll run all day with the thousand dollar puppies, IMHO.Besides,, I have been comissined to look out for Tom.;)
    Congrats on the amp Tom.:)

Alright boys, the Dodd is back in town. Gonna hook it up, grab a beer, hit play and have a little bit of fun. If you don't hear from me for a while, don't come-a-knockin' 'cause I won't hear ya'!

    Let the music begin. :D

Yeah, synergy is a ****. I stayed up way too late last night, swapping IC's and PC's left and right to find the perfect combination of flavor. When I initially hooked everything up I had a terrible over ponderance of bass, mids were too far back and the top end was missing a lot of detail. It took me a while to correct the issue and when I nailed it, I sat back to listen to the music until I fell asleep in the sweet spot.

Man, it sure is good to have music back in the household. :D

The second Anthem1 amp just got delivered about 10 minutes ago so I'm gonna have a little bit more fun adding that into the mix. I have about 4 or 5 sets of tubes to throw into both of the Anthem's so if I encounter any issues like I did when I first hooked them up, I'll just do the IC/PC thing again and start rolling some tubes after that.

Now that I have gotten past the issues I had when I first hooked them up, I have had a bit of time to do some real listening. The first word that comes to mind is "impressive". These speakers do a nice job with virtually all aspects of the spectrum at all volume levels. I still haven't had the time yet to perform the Sumiko setup or even install the spikes on the Linbrooks yet. I keep procrastinating because I keep wanting to change out the CD that's playing to hear another one. I've probably put 40 CD's in the Jolida so far this morning. Live music is stellar on these speakers.

For those that want pics, I'll get them up. I promise. It's just that the LR is a rat's nest right now. I have two boxes worth of cables spread out all over the place, boxes everywhere, CD's stacked up the ying-yang and more things to unpack, install and put away. Everything has arrived that I have planned for the rig. The only things missing are the cosmetic ones that have nothing to do with the sound.

I was listening to John Micheal Montgomery about an hour ago and succeeded to scare the crap out of myself. The music had started and I had it up rather loud just sitting back thinking to myself that these are pretty easy on the ears at high volume levels when "this man" started speaking about a half a foot my left ear. Knowing full well that nobody was in the room I knocked the ottoman over, spilled my drink and dropped the CD I was holding. It was the recording. I almost needed a towel after that one.

More to come.....but for now, the word is "impressive".
