Tom, What speakers are you upgrading from? IIRC, you already owned a pair of Tylers. Taylo's maybe?

I'm thinking my next 2 channel speakers are going to be LSi9's...but after that I'm probably going to have my scope set on a pair of Linbrook Monitors.

I have the Taylos Monitors,,Tom had a pair of Tyler 7U's(floorstanders),,, one was damaged in an accident and it was not feasable to have it replaced,,or something in that vein.:)

Tom you are getting the sig system right?
You got it! In ribbon mahogany. I'm hating having to work as much as I am right now. All I need is two days off to go pick them up. I told the cat who's house I'm working on that between X-mas and New Year's day, I'm splitting to go pick them up regardless of where we are at on the house.

He's got his priorities, I have mine. ;)

George is correct, I currently have the Taylos 7U's. One of the speakers was damaged to the point of no return at a recent audio event [due to an "unfortunate incident".......more on that later] and I haven't had tunes ever since. I miss my tunes!

Ty and I have been talking over the past couple of months and he struck a deal with me to get these bad boys [Thanks Ty, you da' man!!!]. Trey's rig is easily one of the top 3 [maybe 4] rigs that I have heard that has all of the aspects that I personally desire. He didn't know it at the time but about a month ago, Lightman1 and I were working on his new house and we switched out his amplifier with my Anthem1 amp.

I had completely forgotten that I have a tube in there that I do not prefer, it's a "treble clef" tube in the Anthem1 but after we let her warm up a bit? WHOA!! I may just keep that tube in there when I get these speakers. Trey has a different tweeter than that which is in the 7U's that paired well with the treble clef, but not with the tweeter that's in the 7U's. The new speakers will have the same tweeter as the Super Towers Trey has.

I'm hoping that when these speakers come, they offer me what I heard at Trey's house and nothing more or less. He has the super towers with some custom built subs [by Ty]. Instead of me using subs, the Linbrooks will have two 10" Seas drivers on top of the two 7" drivers. "In theory", I should have the same frequencies and dynamic abilities....we'll see. So basically he's got the same gear I will be running with. Not exactly the same gear, but very, very close.....so I'm thinking that I will be where I'd like to be at this point in my audio journey.

    Let's hope I'm right. *prays*

    Thanks guys.

Well, tomorrow I will leave to go pick them up. Got a lot of work to do between now and the time I leave. Gotta empty the truck of all of the X-mas presents, reinstall and set up a DTV DVR receiver, pack up and ship out the Dodd MLP for some repairs/overhaul work, completely empty out the business equipment from the trailer and load up the damaged speakers. After that, about 10 or so hours and I'll be there to get some much needed shut eye.

The next day, they will be loaded up in the trailer headed to their new home. Whoooo-hoo! :D

Holy crap, that was a long haul. My butt is sore and I can't feel my legs but the speakers have arrived....well, kinda. They are still locked up in the trailer for the night. I'll get to them tomorrow as I am pooped out right now. I'm just glad that they are here....finally. Eh, that they are here safe too.

Had a real nice visit with Ty. We listened to some tunes on the new speakers using some Bel Canto gear that he will be using for the show in January. Toured his shop and WOW! Holy mackerel, Ty has a big shop. I think I counted twelve separate rooms, some of which are bigger than my house. I'll post some pic's when I can sit comfortably for more than 5 minutes without the loss of feeling in both legs. Did I mention my butt was sore?

Man, was that drive through the NC/TN/KY mountains beautiful. The photographic images that are stamped in my brain are priceless. It has been a while since driving through the mountains and seeing those kind of views....which is weird because I go out to the mountains twice every year...Hmmm. I guess it boils down to better and different views seen both during the day and night.

Northwest of Asheville, NC looked like it got hit pretty damned hard by mother nature. Snow was still built up in areas and it almost looked like hurricane Hugo came through there. Trees were down like toothpicks. There were times when driving through the twisty, winding roads of the Asheville hwy. that I would have to get in the other lane [very dangerous] just to avoid a tree or branch.

Anyhoo, I'm done typing for now. I had a safe trip, the speakers are here, they sound fantastic on first impression and I had a wonderful road trip. Now for a date with the pillow.

Congrats on the new speakers! btw That drive you described is my all-time favorite. In fact, I was just talking about it to some friends a couple of nights ago. Absolutely stunning any time of the year.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I just now got them into the house a few minutes ago. Damn, they look sweet. :D

I am awaiting the return of the Dodd MLP before I can listen to them. I'll call Gary today and get a feeling of the turnaround time. I have a Carver C-16 pre that I can use but to be honest with you? The difference between the C-16 and the MLP is night and day. I don't even want to listen to it, even though I have been without music for so long. I have patience [good thing] to wait for the complete rig to be set up.

I also have a couple of things I'd like to do to other aspects of the rig while the Dodd is in the shop. TRUST ME, when she's all hooked up and singing away, I will have no reservations on offering my observations, good or bad.

I just have to wait a little longer......:(

I will, however, offer my observations of what I heard at Ty's factory. First off, they were auditioned in a rather small room in way less than a stellar acoustical environment. The room was about 17'x11' and they were positioned about 2' feet away from the long wall. The walls were cinder block, the floor was concrete with what looked like commercial carpeting and there were only a few panels located behind the speakers. When I sat down in the makeshift sweet spot, I felt as if I were no further than 4-5' in front of the speakers with them being 8 or 9' apart. Like I said, not the best acoustical environment.

That said, these speakers are not even in the same league as the Taylos 7U's. It sounds like a completely different speaker altogether. The Millennium tweeter sounded very nice, however in that room, with that gear [Bel Canto] it was a tad bright for my liking. The mids and upper mids blended seamlessly with the top end.

Now, the lower mids to lower registers are where most of the differences came when comparing them to the Taylo 7U's. They are only rated down to 25 Hz but with what I heard, I would swear that they dig a little deeper than that. I don't believe that I'll ever be using a sub with these as they do surprisingly sound like a full range speaker. At times the bass was.....not muddled, not heavy but.....what's the word? Over-pondering, yeah, that's it. Not like a "boom" but just not really as tight and controlled for my liking. It's just not what I've grown accustom to expect. I could not tell whether it was the room, the recording [jazz] or the SS gear that was running it or a combination or what?

Overall, for such a crappy auditioning area [Ty does not really have one at the factory, this was just one of the many rooms], they sounded rather nice. They definitely sound nothing like the Taylos 7U's at all. I'm looking forward to getting the Dodd back, doing the Sumiko setup and sitting down for some great tunes once again.

Ern Dog, pic's are coming. I don't know if the camera had enough light for all of the photos but I'll post the pic's as soon as I get a few things done around the house. ;)
