Well you better get some stuff moved around and be ready for Friday night gaming!!! LOL!:DMoney Talks, Mine says Goodbye Rob!!!! -
no, worst thing i can do right now is rush. gotta plan. avs got a thread about wilson art laminates. easy to clean while still offering tremendous PQ. will look into that. i don't think i'll be happy with fabric screens unless i up the ante and purchase high gain...4 hi $! even threads on rustoleum "aluminum" paint, tho it may have hotspots on a screen so big. gotta research summore.

All my cables in the HT are from Bluejeans cables bro. Very good quality stuff. Monoprice is said to be decent also. As for screen you do not need that high a gain screen bro. Too bright and the image will be washed out and black level lost. Do a Da-lite Hi power screen if you need the brightness. The PQ of the Elite will easily destroy that of the Wilson Art stuff bro. Do your homework bro and just spend the 300-400 for the ELite screen.

yeah, sherard, i may just go the elite route. i talked to visual apex today and this may be best. $90 shipping. not bad. i think i'm gonna mount the panny and then shoot some more screens on the wall and try to decide between 125" and the 138", which is the only next size up. 130" would be purrrrfect.

Bizill quick question. With the Panasonic 4000 you have you can set it between 2.35:1 and 1.78:1 without a conversion lens?

PM sent, I also wanted to add you can even go Panny 4000U and scope screen, however when viewing 16:9 material you will have the black bars on the sides though. My preference would be go 16:9 screen, zoom when viewing 2:35 material until the black bars are off the screen. If you have a black screen wall you want be able to see this anyway. Also to mention most screens are covered in black out material using velvet so it would hardly be noticeable. If you don't mind the pillarboxing (16:9 source) then of course 2:35 would look awesome when viewing movies.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

wut he said. i dont feel sick, but have that nyquil hangover. yes, panny has a zoom feature that stores two preset zoom and focus points that you define for 2.35:1 and 16:9. check youtube. cant link right now 4 u. sorry.

after, but still much to do...
i don't know what the black spots on the "wall-screen" are. they don't exist. anyway, gotta update ceiling fans, vertical blinds and finish a real DIY screen and get a new low-profile entertainment center. the screen will be 137" diagonal or approx. 53.5" tall by 126.something long. it's coming together...the black walls look much better in person than in the pics.

the flash on the cam doesn't do it justice. in person it looks sexy and sophisticated with the all black going on. and it sucks i can't build a platform and make 2 rows. i can in my other room, but the fireplace room is the family fave so here the HT remains.

yeah, it'll suck away some of my brightness as i am using full zoom on my panasonic projector, but it's still plenty bright. after i do my screen, i can post screenshots, which is of course, the intended purpose of this thread, not my personal HT build...lol.

Best Buy Magnolia also has the older BDI Avion low profile stands on clearance. Comes in cherry and a dark espresso finish. It holds a ton of gear and has vents on the bottom and removeable sliding rear panels.

dave, you crazy.
leroy and miller, yes, it's 2.35:1. but i've been debating ALL morn if i should do a 2.40:1 screen instead. more movies are presented this way. if i watch a 2.40 on a 2.35 screen, then i'll have tiny 1/2" bars at the top and bottom of my screen. if i make a 2.40 screen, then no bars. but if i watch a 2.35 movie on a 2.40 screen, i'll have picture bleeding out that same 1/2" of the movie on top and bottom, which the velvet bordor i'll make is supposed to absorb.
i think i'm going with a 2.35 movie screen and i'll fabricate some tiny 1/2" masking using magnets to hold them in place when i watch 2.40 movies.
damn all the unstandardized aspect ratios that exist!
i'm drawing up plans now to make my frame to hold my sheet of laminate for the screen. then i'll have to wait a few days or weeks to find some velvet to wrap around the border i'll be making. off to home depot soon...

Stick with the 2:35 aspect bro. Perhaps you won't need the masking with that velvet trim and dark wall, the whole purpose of it anyway. I do like Leroy's suggestion for stand, that is very nice and looks classy.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Looking good bro! Now all you have to do is post some shots of that new screen you were supposed to be making this weekend with a picture on it.;)Money Talks, Mine says Goodbye Rob!!!!
-
i have my settings pretty bright for that lcd POP i've been wishin' for. my camera doesn't do the picture justice in the least. i was also too lazy to break out the 'ole tripod. blacks look much better than what these pictures dipict.
as for my screen, WOW! what a night and day difference from projecting onto a pink-ish wall (folks lived here before me did this) onto this wilsonart designer white laminate i've read about and made my own. i still have to get some velvet and wrap it around some nice baseboard and then affix it to the screen. anyway, the picture is so much brighter now. there is a fair amount of gain this screen gives off. NO HOTSPOTTING, either. uniform brightness and a smile on my face i wasn't getting without this screen.
the blacks are much blacker than before. painting walls black helped for sure. but the screen worked wonders. i'm guessing the blacks look more black due to the brighter colors being that much brighter. "ant bully" on hd dvd looked soooo amazing last night when i hung the screen on the wall. i was too entranced by the picture to want to grab the camera.
anyway, here are some pics from coraline. on the one pic you'll notice i TRIED to get the menu to drop out of the picture but still got it on the snapshot. again, these pics don't compare to the real thing. not by a longshot.
