LMAO!!! It's all good bro, just wanna share the experience with everyone else. Sherard sent me a IM the other day asking if I'd be interested in purchasing the RS10 from him (he has the upgrade bug again) so in order for me to snag the RS10, the HD1 will have to go. Not a thing wrong with the HD1, not so much as a mark on it but in order to make big purchases like the RS10, the wifey said the HD1 must be sold first. PM returned!

Seems like good prices for projectors! However, to put it in perspective...I checked my bank account the other day...and have a grand total of $13 in there. :(:p

let me rephrase that, i can get some pop, but not the WOW factor from being such a huge screen. as they say, there's no replacement for displacement. or in this case, area.

I'm trying to do this **** right.

I will bring the DSLR home tonight and take some shots of my basement space where all my gear is going once its finished the way I want it, but there will be work to do I just haven't started yet. Right now my projector is in my living room, which is awesome until the real deal man cave is done. ;)

Still need to buy a screen.

My wants are a new AVR (I want to spend under $1K for this..suggestions? The only reason I'm replacing my Pioneer Elite is due to the lack of HDMI), the Oppo BDP-83 to replace (?) the PS3, and a new stand. That's close to $2K right there. Is HDMI that important or do you think I should just sit on the money for now and wait a while? Honestly, I like the sound of my system just fine (meaning I am satisfied), but how much will it affect my picture?

Then there's getting my basement carpeted (cheap tile right now), but it is considered a finished basement already.

I should probably unload my like new CSi40 on the FM that's been sitting in a box for a couple years now.

bro, if you want to hear the audio formats such as dts master audio and dolby trueHD, then HDMI is a MUST. it's the only transport that carries these signals.

tax return is here. now i gotta decide which projector and which screen and screen format. for now i'm leaning toward the 125" 2.35:1 screen and the panasonic ae-4000u...

Go with the Elite screen and you should be fine while saving some coin doing so.

As for the AVR if you like the Pio sound then go for a SC05 or SC25 which can be found all over the place for under 1k. As for HDMI, if you want to take full advantage of 1080p and HD sound you need it. There are options, you can hook the PJ up over component and run your audio via multichannel inputs. This will give you HD codecs but still no 1080p.

As for the basement, in order to achieve the best possible audio I would think carpet is a must especially with HT, it will definitely help. In my own install I even added about 1/2" carpet padding underneath to help with SQ, it also makes the carpet feel nicer( think Japan no shoes worn indoors).

Once you get setup, you will see what the true HT experience is all about and that FPJ will make you smile. The only thing that would be left is a Paragon Popcorn popper. If you have questions ask.

Nothing wrong with going scope. As mentioned before, if you go scope think long term. The Panny offers the poor man scope capabilities without the use of sled and lens. if you are planning on keeping this PJ for a very long time (over 5yrs) then do the scope setup. I suggest you think outside the box, say you buy another PJ and it's not a Panny. Then in order to make your screen work you will have to buy that sled and lens which will cost you at least another 3-4k easy.

Since the Panny has lens memory, do a 16:9 screen, then when watching 2:35 sources have the Panny zoom until the black bars are off the screen. Given the fact that your screen wall will be flat black and your screen has black out material in the frame, any overscan will not be visible. Bet you did'nt think of that one did ya? :D

no deal. if zooming in that manner on a 16:9 screen i'd lose a good amount of info from both left and right sides of the screen. with a 2.35:1 screen i will lose nothing...but the top and bottom bars. **** yeah. then if i zoomed OUT to project the 16:9 picture, i'd still have 100" diag on the same screen (125" anamorphic). i may even go with a fixed 2.35 and a drop down 16:9 or even two drop down screens and have the 40" lcd hidden behind them on the wall for everyday viewing.

i ordered the panasonic ae4000u this morn, but they are still backordered. so i'll have to waste a weekend wishing i had it and hopefully it comes early next week. i'll project onto my wall and go from there in deciding what screen to go with. projector people give you 30 days or 4 hours on the bulb to test it out. return it on my dollar with no restocking fee and chose another if i feel like it.

they just leaked the fact that the epson 8500ub has a fix out now for the red wavy lines i was telling you about. but too little, too late. also i called AV science store to see if they had the panny in stock but they don't sell it. they DID have 10 jvc rs10 b-stocks for only $2900 with full warrantee, but i passed as i wouldn't have money left over for a screen. they sold those out in less than a few hours. the lady, Bobbie i believe, really wanted to get me into that rs-10 but i had to tell her money doesn't grow on trees for me.:(

yeah, i got it, sherard, and i did a quick setup on top of some boxes. projected onto a pink/peach colored wall (was this color when i bought the house) and not too bad. will be plenty bright for movie night, dynamic pushes greens bigtime for daytime ambient light. major washout of the colors projected on wall due to reflected light. once i tame all that with a screen and painting black walls, it'll be sweet. i can imagine where the jvc would be much better, but price was my handicap. as well as the soffit i have to battle, thus my choice of anamorphic screen.

now, i have to decide if i want a premade screen or make my own. i don't think i'm gonna get that pop i want without a dalite high power or any other high gain screen. i'm wanting at LEAST 1.4 gain. i read of many who go well about 2.0 and love the sizzle and pop they get.

the kids and their mom were trippin' out and want me to set this thing up quickly. i gotta get a ceiling mount. it's too late to design my own. i may go pre-made, but i work at a manufacturing plant with laser cutters and cnc's and tig welders and got all sorts of material to mess with. that's why i wanted my projector this past weekend, so i could plan **** out. tonight i could only do a quick setup on a wall to get an idea of size. i can get up to 130" diagonal anamorphic. can't get away with 16:9 because i can't get lower to the floor due to an armrest on a recliner. between that and the soffit, cinemascope is my only choice, and one i'm quite content with. i do sort of wish i could get away with 130" 16:9 though.

I see the softfit though hard to see with image being dark. You may have to go smaller 16:9 screen or stick to cinescope. Hard to tell though cause image is dark. Also where are you going to locate that gear rack?

gonna have to get one of those low-profile but long entertainment cabinets. no place else to put my gear besides below the big screen. i also had to move my svs to basically the same place you have yours. off to the side.

If go smaller you can 16:9, correct? Have you done any measurements? How does a 16:9 image look with the aspect set to 2:35? Have you done any comparisons in that regard?Either way I think with will work for you. Perhaps the scope setup will get you a larger image as you mentioned though.

125" 2.35:1 compared to my old 16:9 rptv

same 125" 2.35:1 that can be zoomed down to fit a 100" 16:9 screen with black bars on both left and right sides. i can make custom velvet masking if the blacks aren't dark enough to disappear... notice both aspects share the same height. this is the best compromise for my room's short-comings.

    compliments of http://www.displaywars.com/125-inch-235x1-vs-100-inch-16x9

so that 100" 16:9 screen still kicks **** of my old 65" 16:9 rptv.

if i go with the biggest 16:9 screen, i'm limited to roughly 106" diag due to soffit. that would only fetch me a 100" diag 2.35:1 anamorphic screen when watching movies in that format. so this would not be optimal for me. i'll take that 125" 2.35:1 vs a smaller 100" 2.35:1 anyday.

Measure it out bro, 100" screen is still freaking large bro. Also keep in mind when you go large be prepared to replace lamps around the 1400-1500 mark as these lamps dim fast. I just changed my lamp even though it's rated for 2000 hrs my image just seemed rather flat. So many variables to consider, but if you save your change you should be ok when time to replace that lamp. I used some painters tape to measure out my image also, suggest you try that and play with zoom to see what works.

Well, there goes the neighborhood. Congrats on your new purchase though. The one thing I see being an issue is the ceiling fan if mounted to the ceiling unless you use a pole with the mount. It seems the height you have it at now would be great other than the fact that if someone gets up to leave the room you may loose sight of the picture for a second. After seeing the room you have to work with I can understand why you wanna go scope now but I still believe 16:9 will do the job just as well. As Sherard said too, when mounting the projector, mount it as close as you can to the sweet spot of the zoom to keep from having to replace bulbs every 1500 hours. My JVC is at about 1650 hours with very minimum dimming although I can tell a difference some but I think I'm going to drop in my new bulb once I hit 2000 and keep the original as a spare. I'll probably end up having Sherard order me a new bulb sometime next week so I'll have a brand new spare as well.
