I haven't tried them yet, so it must not be possible."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

It's just a fact here - no matter where it comes from. It could be an article from NIST and they'd still ridicule it.
You are correct. We play at a much higher level here. Once something has been proven to us time and time again we know it to be true.

To screw or not to screw... Back in the day we used to mark the tire/rim and wait for test results. Depends on power, but sometimes that sticky bead stuff doesn't keep them from slipping. Because apparently you didn't read it, or didn't understand it.
When nothing is changed at all, it's not pessimistic to not notice a difference. There is no difference.
Damn, your reading comprehension is as bad as your hearing. It was a subject-oriented adjective that was used to label the harmful, unpleasant, or undesirable reactions (or responses) that a subject manifested (thus, "nocebo reactions" or "nocebo responses") as a result of administering an inert dummy drug, where these responses had not been chemically generated, and were entirely due to the subject's pessimistic belief and expectation that the inert drug would produce harmful, injurious, unpleasant, or undesirable consequences.WilliamM2 wrote:Sure, give the ban button to someone who has been banned a few times himself.
You're a very confused person. I was banned once and it involved a bunch of behind the scenes BS that you will never be privy to. It had absolutely nothing to do with anything I posted here, so stifle.Political Correctness'.........defined

People who feel better = placebo, people who feel worse = nocebo.
What does either have to do with someone who notices absolutely no difference at all?
It's right there in your own quote:It was a subject-oriented adjective that was used to label the harmful, unpleasant, or undesirable reactions (or responses) that a subject manifested (thus, "nocebo reactions" or "nocebo responses") as a result of administering an inert dummy drug, where these responses had not been chemically generated, and were entirely due to the subject's pessimistic belief and expectation that the inert drug would produce harmful, injurious, unpleasant, or undesirable consequences. -
I replaced the TSI-100's in my business partners studio with a pair of Behringer 2031p's. It was a marked improvement and they even cost a few $$'s less. I like the TSI-100's but they are not the end all.
So let me get this straight....this thread of which I had the last post in May of 2009 was revived by someone....And we're now talking about all amps sounding the same, back to the old double blind interconnect test, and speakers vs amps, wires etc....which is more important to the sound chain...
ALL OF THEM!!
For the record....anyone is entitled to give their opinion....mine was based on real life experience above....as jinkuku quotes me? Since I did not mention Behringer 'anywhere' in my review and since BB does not sell Behringer...I am not quite following the reasoning above. If you want me to compare the TSI-100s to Behringers, I would gladly do so...if you provide a pair.
I will say that I have heard 500 dollar a pair Behringer near-field monitors and they sound fine for that function in that price range, i.e., as a cheap self-powered desktop monitor--they work quite well. I would NOT compare those with a 200 dollar set of TSI-100s which are not designed as a near field monitor.
So, personally I have not attacked Mr. Jinjuku nor really engaged him in any way.
My story was that I was curious as to how the NEW TSIs stacked up against what offerings the Big box stores had in their range....the conclusion....only with what was 'available' was not very well.
I also agree that these speakers were NOT designed for use in such a large room as the reviewer had. For further corroboration of that fact! Call Polk CS and ask their Engineers what size room Tsi-100s are ideal for.
I also, NEVER, said TSIs were the bees Knees....there are better bookshelves out there. But for their price and for the average consumer...these are a great value, enough said.
Onto Cogito....hey we're both from the same state back home. You're only a newb in terms of post count...you obviously have a lot of experience with audio in your past.
What you need to know is that we've had this debate a dozen times on this site....more than that for the older members and it gets to be tiresome after a while....no one ever convinces anyone else of what they believe short of actually sharing gear and taking up some of the offers people have given you above. And there are members who disagree with you who 'are' willing to go double blind? And some who've moved on from needing that kind of proof.
Frankly, I don't see that we're going anywhere here. And I don't really get into the name calling and the my father can beat up your father any day of the week sandbox lore?
So, let me just state my opinion and sign off. Speakers, yes they make a difference...why else would people continue to buy and sell theirs.
Amps do sound different...as do pre-s. Some match up better than others...there is synergy; having been to a Polk gathering or two I can say that everyone has heard such differences...and we were not merely all subjects of the Amazing Kreskin!
Wires, cables, etc....have an effect....how much of one I'm not sure yet because I have not heard enough variety there.
Sources....sure...a tube pre, and a CDP with a Tube output stage and first rate transport, great DACs, etc....sounds pretty damned good! I can't afford that!
A speaker better than a TSI-100....an LSI-9, a Focal bookshelf, a Dynaudio bookshelf, etc. All cost quite a bit more.
Is the TSI-100 for everyone? NO. Some will NOT like its sound....some people like an even brighter high end...and some don't want to hear any high details at all...all they want is lots of BASS, BASS, BASS....
I'm outta here...enjoy the merry-go-around, round and round we go and when we stop NOBODY KNOWS!!

That's an extremely generalized comment. What does either have to do with someone who notices absolutely no difference at all?
Maybe something, maybe nothing.....read on.
I'm focused on a person's pessimistic belief and expectation, the core of the nocebo effect, as it relates to audio in as much as they believe they will hear no difference as such differences do not exist.
It's simply the flip side, argued by you and folks like you, of the placebo effect as it relates to audio in that one can be influenced by a preconceived notion that differences do exist.Political Correctness'.........defined

I see how it is... If someone doesn't agree with you, we call them names and TRY to demean them rather than debating the subject at hand and making a sensible argument. It's okay though, as I see it in politics all the time. Either be good little sheep, or it's off to the slaughter house.

WTF? Is this Troll Fest? LoL!
This thread has em' all coming out.
Yes. What I like is their complaining they are not taken seriously even though they have read an article on the Internet that "proves" there is no audible differance between 'X' or 'Y'.
In all these threads I have not yet seen one person say they have invested, for example, $10,000, in a CDP, pre-amp, amp(s), and speakers, and then tried various cables, and observed no audible differances. Rather, it is always the same thing, "Here is a link that proves this is all a placebo."
By the way, I purchased your recommendation of a good recorded CD, Memoirs of a Geisha, and you are right. It is well recorded, sounds great, and, even better, I like the music. I even bought the soundtrack for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and it to is great.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
