How many times do you have to buy an xbox 360?

As you can see here you can break it down into region area and date, where it was bought etc....not really all that difficult. I wish I would have known earlier and I could have saved you the stress of buying one and seeing whether it was a jasper or not before opening it.

Thanks anyways, avelanchefan. But, yes, I could have use it a couple of hours ago. All is good though.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
Those intercoolers are junk and are known to cause more harm then good. Seriously, google it and you'll see what i'm talking about.
I've left it on for more than 24 hours straight. I have also had the intercooler on for a year and a half with no issues whatsoever. All I found from forums is that if one of the fans goes, it increases current draw and puts the xbox into 'error mode' that is fixed by removing it. I'll take that over rrod any day.
I've considered hooking it up to it's own power supply but meh, too much work. -

That's cool if it's working for you with no issues though.
I've been lucky with my Elite so far, no issues and i've had it for quite a while. It has the Falcon chipset, which just like the newer Jasper is supposed to help. Anyways i should go knock on wood now, my luck the next time i turn on my 360 i see the red rings of death!!! lol  -
My XBOX lasted about 3 months initially, got the ring of death thingy....lol. sent it to Microsoft, that was about a year ago, it gets played hard everyday by my kids, so far so good, I agree with some of the other posts though when we got it back the fan is loud as heck, sounds like its gettin ready to take off, but with the H/T cranked up its all good. The Jasper chipset should eliminate the major cause of RROD, which is heat from the GPU warping the mainboard. The Jaspers use a 65nm GPU and CPU, requiring less power to run them and producing less heat. The Jasper chipset also puts 256mb of ram on the mainboard to handle the NXE dashboard without external storage (it'll show up like you have an external memory unit plugged in when you go to storage options).
As to how to get one of the Jasper chipsets, get the arcade package with Kung Fu Panda and one other game packed in and you've got fair odds. The only surefire way to ensure that it's a Jasper is to push open the serial number slot on the box and look at the power rating on the label. If it's 14 amps, it's a Zephyr chipset (i.e. 65nm CPU, 95nm GPU). If it's like 12.1A, it's a Jasper.
The only difference between the Pro and Arcade as far as hardware goes is the color of the drive tray. Other than that, it's just the pack-ins.
My Xbox power rating says 12v 142A 5V 1A

Never in the history of products has a product(except Denon) failed so much. Microsoft as a company is horrible. I stand my statement. I will not buy another one. Once this one is done, I'm done.

Are you certian your Elite has the falcon chipset? I thought the Elite's with the falcon chipset didn't start appearing on shelves till late November 2007. I know my pro was bought in Sep '07. It doesn't have the falcon, but it does have the upgraded heatsink. The pros with the falcon weren't on shelves till Dec '07 (if memory serves). -

Looks like the main problem is from a loose fitting power plug on the intercooler, which was fixed with the newer intercoolers released in the summer of '07. -
It's amazing to learn the intricate details of 360 MOBO releases, complete with the pics and timeline, from an end-user perspective. when I bought my original release (Xenon) I never thought twice about learning so much of what has been done to cool the CPU and GPU of the unit. I certainly wouldn't have the vested interest to know about how many Intel MOBO releases ever since it was available on the market.
It's a good thing, the power of knowledge sharing on the internet.
Just an observation, and yes, I love my CODs and RS: V1&2.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -

I'm certain it has the Falcon yes, i actually went through quite an ordeal to make sure i got one. Returned quite a few 360's until i had the Falcon chipset, and the disc drive i wanted.
What i'm not certain about is the month i bought it, i know it was fall, and i think september, but i could be wrong. I'll have to go digging for my receipt now.
Edit: I just found my receipt, and apparently i bought it on 11/29/07. So you're right, and my memory is not what it once was...lol
That receipt brought back memories, i can't believe what i went through just to get a falcon. Buying an Elite at one gamestop, returning it, then buying another, then going to another gamestop, rince and repeat. I went as far as to drive to three different towns in my state all for a silly Falcon lol...:o -

Oh, well that's good that they got the issue fixed then. -

When you see people that are on their 10'th or 11'th Xbox, driving to three different towns is MORE than worth it! -

ive been doing some research and im thinking the one i may be buying has the falcon chip. the one im buying is 2nd hand and from what i understand it was manufactured April of 2008 . now im wondering if i should hold out for the jasper since its sounds like its an improvement over the falcon orwillthe falcon suffice? -

it seems that half of the boards are unknown from April 2008 with one being Opus and the other half being falcon for the Elites from that manufacturing time. -
Falcon might have resolved RROD issue, but if you are getting one now, might as well go for Jasper. I've seen lots of refurb Jasper for sale on Ebay, that might be a better route. It might not be an elite, but you can add on everything else that comes with the Elite bundle.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. A friend of mine who bought a March 2006 (Xenon/Zephyr mobo) had a RROD last Thursday, sent it back to MS under warranty, and got his machine back today (he lives in Plano, TX, so it is literally next door to MS repair center). He got his original machine back, with the same Serial Number. The part I don't understand is, how did the Repair Center spent 24 hours to replace the MOBO? My only speculation is they replaced the MOBO with another Xenon/Zephyr, instead of Opus, and re-use the casing. Since it is original/same casing, it shows 16.5A. If so, it's really just prolonging the next untimely RROD death by a year or so (which has been my experience, at the rate we've been using the console)

I don't know what's more astonishing -- That a company could put out such a bad product for so long (as evidenced by high failure percentage), or that the same device could be so compelling that people were so willing to purchase/repair it so many times!

not me , i took a pass on the used Elite i was gonna get. no deql is good enough to go through that headache . -
I purchased a 360 a few weeks ago (arcade version from GameStop) and I have left it on 24 hours a day since then trying to get the rrod and nothing yet. Nothing in the way of disc errors or that it cannot read the disc either; the 360 works great in all areas. I also plugged in a fan to the usb and left that running as well. Only time I did not leave the fan on was when I was charging an Ipod with the usb. After this little experiment I am convinced that the new arcade versions are fine. And yes mine is the Jasper version.

I have tried everything I can think of to try and get the 360 to break short of throwing it out a window. GameStop offers a replacement for the first 30 days so I decided to make sure this 360 was not going to get the rrod or disc read errors. This past weekend my son and daughter had friends playing the 360 almost all day long and not one hiccup (360 was never turned off Sat. or Sun during the extended gaming sessions). I usually limit my children to the amount of time they can play video games so this weekend they thought they had died and gone to heaven since they had unlimited time to play. I'll admit though that what I did is out of the ordinary, but after reading through all the issues the 360 has, I figured I would get the Jasper version and put it through hell to see if it would break. Maybe I'm lucky but looks like I have a winner.

Big, that's a lot of punishment to the Jasper that you've put it through. Personally, I would be surprised if Jasper fail again with RROD. It has been 3+ year since Xenon/Zephyr original design, and MS took a $1.8 Billions charge to provide replacements to broken consoles. They have put tons of money into R&D to redesign the MOBO, including redesigning cooling pipe to the GPU to prevent overheating. At the minimum, it increases the threshold the point of meltdown, if it ever happens. Both my RROD failure points, interestingly enough, happens at 1.5 years of usage (light during the year, heavier during new releases of FPS games, and heaviest during holidays with Rock Band). Now, having said that, Jasper might not have RROD issue, but it might different issue lurking (the pessimistic side of me talking) but that's part of ownership experience of electronics these days.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. With the record the 360 has I would not be surprised if some type of issue pops up down the road. If it does I will get one of my sons friends to fix it. He fixes the rrod and disc read errors for $30.00-$50.00 plus he mods 360s. Before I bought this one he brought over his 360 and it did not even look like one. It was in a different case, had glowing lights inside, different drive, had a HUGE hd,a different gui, and the list goes on and on. The cool thing about his is that he has ALL his games on it plus tons of music and movies. He said he does not even need the discs anymore....copy to hd and then you are ready to play. Kids these days are little rocket scientists with electronic gizmos.
