No, still not working.

The error message comes up randomly, can be at intervals of every few minutes to more than 3 hours.

What is this Rtvscan process that's taking up the bulk of my memory?

This is what I do with every customer, friend and family member.

Download IE7, and update it to the fullest.

Download the new yahoo toolbar, it come with a nortan antispyware, runs great.

Download AVG free addition.

I have this on every computer I own and friends and relative's also. Not one virus spyware problem for the past year.

Highlight it, click on it and click end task

I believe that is Norton Antivirus

because Norton Antivirus is running in the background...

the rtvscan file is legit..It is just Norton being a memory hog

Just kidding, its a system program. Cant shut down system programs. Looks like norton


Google is your friend. Type the running program into google and click search. alot of programs do have deffenitions and will explain themselves.

Do youself a favor and get rid of Norton and McAfee if you have it. Memory hogs is right...

Slow computers, thats the first thing I look for, antivirus softwares running.

Avg is the best I have seen..

+1 on getting rid of Norton and McAfee

Another great Antivirus pgm is Bitdefender. I've been running Bitdefender with no problems

Sure, I can get rid of it, but what does this have to do with the original problem?

The Symantec Enterprise version is much less resource hogging than the Norton version, which I used to have.

I beleive its an IE error.

Still a hog, even though its less than Norton.

Memory problems can acount for alot of errors. If there is a program taking up too much memory then errors will occur.

So, do you recommend changing an antivirus program FIRST or installing IE7?

I'm reluctant to install new things if the current problem may, unfortunately, still exist.

If you dont want IE7, which I think is a good browser. Then try this..that I recommended.

OK, I cancelled the download and will do what you told me to.

"Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL cache. Insert your Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD now."

I don't have such a CD, just HP System Recovery partition on the hard drive.

Argh! Entire system just locked up on me, and I had to take out the battery!

Just restarted and at least I can get back into Windows.

you can always unistall IE7 and go back to IE6 if it doesnt work

You really need ot run a virus can too.

Some sysfader.exe are infected...SOME..
