I'm at Ryans house. This is bacon wrapped tater tots with jalapeno peppers and chedder cheese.
I'm sure his wife is trying to kill me slowly.

some cool cars come out at our church in the summertime :)

The Woody's interesting. Its owner (an incredibly spry retired MD in his early 80s) bought it used from its original owner... in 1954 when (if I understand correctly) he was a med student in MA. It was licensed by MA at the time as a "beach wagon" :)
    It is absolutely beautiful.

Is there a herpetologist in the house?
Sounds like a punchline to a bad Borscht Belt joke... but it's a semi-sincere question.
Our son had a close encounter today with this small (7" snake) -- I am assuming it's a young one (as opposed to a small species). I am taking the liberty of sharing a photo he took. Snakes are critters about which I don't know very much. Up here, we have very few venomous snakes (virtually none actually)... but our son lives in southern Virginia. All kinds of nasty crawlies as one goes further south in the US.

Any ideas as to what it might be?

Good citizen, H! I took that shot whilst having a cuppa joe and making sure my nicotine levels were up to measure.
It's the sunrise from Ryans @ZLTFUL front porch. Sucks to be in Iowa. :'(

And I can't 100% ID that legless demon serpent. Look up pine snake. It doesn't have the markings of a copperhead, though. There's a plus.

The snake in question is in VA not here... I am not aware of any water close to the locale of the snake in question, but there could be.
Yes, that looks like a good match morphologically. Thanks.

    Ok VA has more choices
If the picture is making it look bigger than it actually is, could be a young black rat snake

Hmm. FYI, I got another vote for a rat snake at Erik's HiFi Haven Forum -- yes it looks bigger than it really is, I think (I didn't see it in the flesh, being about 600 miles away, give or take).

parametrically, eastern rat snake looks pretty darned plausible:
    http://www.virginiaherpetologicalsociety.com/concern/snake-of-concern.htm
  • Looks like it's a juvenile rat snake by the body markings and the shape/coloring of the head plate.
They're not supposed to be venomous unless, like everything in life, you're allergic to their bite.

Rat snakes are docile, unless there are cats, dogs, or kids that will kill it, I'd let roam around the yard. Great rodent killer.

I belonged to The Greater San Antonio Hematological Society in my wee younger years. Lot more familiar of with the Texas/LA/Mexico repts

    Hematology or herpetology? :)

I know a lot more about one of those than the other ;)

At least you're "consistent", but I do believe we just celebrated LABOR DAY (and our history with regard to that is pretty abysmal, enough said!). In any case this is all irrelevant to THIS thread!

I always love the idyllic pics of where you all live! Perhaps I should post some "interior" shots so that we can see the real life messy living of a former working class boy! in order to bring down the niceness factor! Because everyone here is too nice (shots of snakes, though, are moving in the right direction)! lol Enjoy!

I'll start it off with my studio apartment. Take it easy on me, I'm a single dude living alone with a shedding dog and working two (and a half sort of) jobs. Not a ton of time for cleaning but I try.

The furniture looks an awful lot like my first apartment with Stephanie. I liked that rug, but hated it after it kept moving around the room so much.

I have the rug under the feet of the couch, it's not going anywhere. My old one wasn't big enough to fit under the feet of the couch and stay centered, it slid around everywhere. Couch is from American Furniture Warehouse.

Your couch isnt close enough to the fridge unless you can turn around and get a beer out without getting up.

Thats how you do it
