    @mhardy6647,

    It is as you say.

    I like to say:
    On a July day in NH, it's very hard to imagine a February day, and on a February day in NH, it's hard to imagine a July day.

    took one from the other side of our little clump of trees, too -- with the flash on to fill in the foreground a bit and (maybe) alter the exposure of the sky a bit, too. I didn't process this one (nor the ones above) other than to crop it a bit.

    @mhardy6647,

    Beautiful evening scenes, and great photography. Being the amateur that I am, I would never have thought of using a flash to fil in a sunset shot. Well done!

    The thing that amazes me is that some of the sunsets are so extraordinary that, if a painter painted them, I'd say "not realistic!"

    We are so fortunate (from my perspective) to have a pretty clear view to the west, so we do get some amazing sunsets.

    Unfortunately, there's a pretty large, and heavily wooded, hill to the east of us, so we don't get much in the way of sunrises... those, too, can be pretty psychedelic in New England.

    1) Been a little dry in New England (having both a well and a fairly large vegetable garden, I may be a little more sensitive to this than some folks).

    2) I don't know what the component is, either -- it has a lot of small signal tubes, so it might be a preamp... but it might be a power amp, too.

    I do know what this is (these are), though.

    six minutes of exposure time, and you can tell that the earth really does revolve on its axis.

    Failed to capture any meteor streaks on the exposures, tho'. Saw some, but they were too dim and/or too fast to leave an image on the exposure :-(

    And some of my fellow residents of North Hampton question my reasons for pushing so hard to maintain the Town's "dark sky standard" in the Zoning Ordinance and Site Plan Regulations.

    Nice shot, Dr. Hardy!

    Silverstar mountain in SW Washington. We were facing south looking at Mt Hood in Oregon. It was an amazing experience and for a brief moment on our hike down the whole forest looked like it was on fire from the setting sun. My 6 year old was in awe and so were my wife and I.
