I upgraded all my power cords to the Volex Model 17604 it is a
3 wire/shielded 14awg cable and cost me $6.50 each

Now let me say I HAVE NEVER BELIEVED THE POWER CABLE HYPE!

But these cords realy changed everything!!
I imediatly noticed a db increase at the same listining levels.
The cound was much clearer and detailed!
The base on my SVS got deeper and tighter!! I did not know it could!:)
I must say I am now a believer I installed 5 of these on my components at the same time so I dont know which one showed the moast improvement but for the price it did not matter to me!

As I am now a believer I have purchased all new Monster power cords 300 series for my amp and SVS and 200 series for my processor,tv and dvd
I know you all hate monster but I like the molded cords and it has the gold plating and I got them for way less than retail, but still way more than the Volex which I highly recomend to those watching there $$
I now have 5 for sale $25.00 shipped

Congrats on the discovery, however, you may not notice as big as an improvement going from Volex to M* as you did from stock to Volex.

Got a link to their website. The new HD-DVD player I picked up has the standard 3-prong plug in the back which will allow for cord upgrades, may what to order one up and give it a try.

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding how these would improve your rig, other then blocking interference out due to better insulation. It's a cord that is just transferring whatever it's getting from the outlet. Also, what if you’re already using a line conditioner?

Yah I may not see that big of a diffrence in the Monster but it is a 12 gauge double sheilded and gold plated sturdy prongs. And I got some $$ to burn as I revamp the theater room!!

I recently acquired a jolida cd player and many here recommended a power cord upgrade. I talked to others, including my dealer and they didn't really feel that power upgrade on equipment was worth it. I was over at my dealers house watching a movie one evening and when I left he gave me a heavier gauge, but just a simple OEM power cord that he put an industrial end on it to try. I was shocked at the difference. Bass is less muddy, and top half really opened up. I am currently waiting for my PS Audio statement cable to arrive (damn backorder). I know you are going to respond Jesse so I will just say it. You are totally correct. I apologize if I seemed to have doubts.

Just a question from an ignorant budget home audio enthusiast... If power cords made THAT much of a difference than why wouldnt more manufacturers just make their products with better cables? It seems to me to be a low cost way to get a major performance improvement if this is true.

I also think many people forget that it doesnt matter what kind of power cable you have coming from your wall socket, the wiring in your house behind the socket is going to be a limiting factor anyways. Kind of like the "weakest link" in the chain theory. Considering you can wire an entire house with a certain quality cable for a relatively low price per foot, why should the cost of the cable coming from the wall socket be any more?

Dont get me wrong, im not trying to disrespect power cable bvelievers. I have virtually no experience with better power cables and limited understanding of electric engineering as well, but this kind of seems like common sense to me. Is anyone else with me on this?

PS - If this is another rehashing of the whole "do cables make a difference" debate i apologize profusely :) I dont know if power cables and signal cables are exactly the same thing...

StopherJJ1980 Try it. Take your power cords off and replace them with something else. Perhaps you can find some computer power cords laying around and use them. See if you notice a difference.
Let us know what you think.

I changed my power cords, I wasn't looking for a chang in sound but I wanted cords better than the computer cords that I was using. I believe I noticed a difference but I am no audio-phyle. I have a bad enough memory for everyday details let alone what my system sounded like two hours ago when I turned it off.

try it and see what you think.

so why don't manufacturer's give you the best interconnects because they'd want their unit to sound the best they can.

Because it's cheaper....some don't believe in the benefit....some actually do provide Volex type cords or better. You don't really sell equipment based on a "upgraded" power cord....most folks could care less.

Ron from SVS simply doesn't believe in the benefit but is entertaining the thought....Frank Dai, Signal Cable, provides the stock power cord for the Velodyne 1812 subwoofer. I believe Outlaw provides, or used to at least, a set of IC's with their gear.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

It's called mass market production meeting a pricepoint. Power cords? Hell, how about internal components, caps, input jacks, etc etc. It's not a big deal for you to spend, say $89.95 on a power cord for your amp, it IS a big deal for a manufacturer to spend (dlr cost) say $39.95 PER AMP.

Not to mention, very few manufacturers get in bed with each other. Kimber and Monster are the only two I know of that have teamed up with speaker and/or electronics manufacturers. Reason one, the dealer selling Polk, may also sell Audioquest. Would they want Polk to package PS Audio power cords with their subs? Of course not, they want to sell you an AQ cable.

Yes, hard to beat for like 4 to 6 bucks a piece, depending on where you buy them. I have them all around. 14awg, heavy shielding, good plugs.
