They are a solution looking for a problem and the general public has made it clear they don't want them forced upon them for a host of damn good reasons. Full stop.

Forced on them, no. That was a mistake for sure. They are a practical solution for many though and they will be around in increasing numbers over the years.

I wonder how many electric cars made today will still be on the road in 20 years without major repairs or battery replacement? I beat the heck out of my Chevy Silverado HD and it will be 20 years old next year, with no major repairs costs.

Hey, billbillw, maybe you didn't notice but the title of the thread is "The EV Hate Thread".

Maybe take your EV rationalization and apologizing to "The EV Love Thread"?

I don't love them. I am simply pointing out false or heavily slanted statements. I'm as much an old fashioned "car guy" as many of you are. I love a V8 with a manual transmission. EVs are here to stay though.

A lot of people purchased the 1st Generation Nissan LEAF EV because of the $7500 tax credit
    wu1sl7w15tdv.png

They were everywhere, and now not as many are still on the local roads here in Marietta. Thank goodness! Many owners have seen the "light". I always thought their purpose was to limit our freedom of driving on long trips and to other parts of our country.

I saw a blog awhile back that I liked from a guy in Colorado:

I’ve been driving all-electric in my 2014 Nissan LEAF since February of 2014. And, since August of 2014, it’s been my ONLY car.

I love my LEAF and I will never go back to a gas car — not only because I can fuel my LEAF with clean, green, locally produced renewable electricity sources such as (home) solar and wind — but because it’s quick, quiet, and just a lot of fun to drive.

I have paid a certain price for being so dedicated to electric vehicles: I haven’t been able to drive many places outside of Greater Denver/Boulder/Fort Collins, Colo. in my LEAF for the past three years thanks to a pretty puny 84 miles of EPA rated range.

Why does anyone want to experience this BULLSH*T?

EV's in my humble opinion are a loser, profit wise, for any company down the road. Hydrogen will most likely take over as that tech is making some good headway. Look for Trump to cancel out any Gov. subsidies for EV's., then you'll see the allure vanish fairly quickly.

    From the Net.

Volkswagen has canceled plans to sell the ID.7 sedan in North America due to a challenging EV climate due a lack of interest for sedans in general in North America where everyone wants an SUV because many are too fat to lower themselves into a sedan — or get back out of one

Just one block from my home this very morning, I saw something that filled me with a smile. In the intersection, three Tesla owners met quite by accident. All three cars will end up being total losses. Nobody hurt, so it is a win-win-win.

So… EV or not, you actually rejoice in the misfortunes of others?

EVs are pointless unless/until we embrace nuclear power generation. We struggle to meet electrical demands now (without everyone charging their vehicles every night). Wind and solar are novelties for large-scale energy production, and coal, natural gas and even hydroelectric power sources are under attack from the eco crusaders. So where do we get the energy to charge 400 million+ EVs every night?

If there was money to be made I would think companies would be switching over to wind/solar "all in" in a heartbeat. Seems to me, basically, unless we, the taxpayers, are subsidizing wind/solar it's a money loser...

As so often said, a solution looking for a problem. How many solar/EV companies have bit the dust now ? While the executives make off with taxpayer coin. While China is going gangbusters opening coal plants.

AI and its demand for resources will bring us all the (fission) nuclear power plants anyone would want, and all the fun that comes along with them.

    TESLA EPISODE

Monday afternoon after backing out of my driveway onto the neighborhood street, my 1997 Ford Ranger and I were almost T-boned by a Tesla in front of my house. The neighborhood street with no center line has a speed limit of 25 MPH.

The young driver of the Tesla was speeding at least 50 MPH as I saw him from some 50-70 yards moving toward me. Perhaps in order to slow the events down, I hesitated before I put the truck in 1st gear to move forward toward the stop sign at the end of the street and intersection.

Without slowing the Tesla, the young driver tried to pass me on the right by driving onto the curb and partially onto my neighbors yard/driveway across the street yard.

By that time, I was moving forward and accelerating my truck so the driver couldn't move the Tesla immediately in front of me and he was unable to pass on the right.

The Tesla still did not slow down.

Then the young driver tried to pass on the left and get in front of my vehicle prior to reaching the end of the street at a stop sign and intersection about two houses/lots lengths long.

In my mind, I could see the Tesla running the stop sign and plowing into several cars on the connecting street. The connecting street was extremely busy.

I immediately braked to avoid a terrible situation.

The map below shows the length of the street and cars tend to accelerate from the right at the cul-de-sac toward the connecting street at the left on map.

They drive that way here too. Far worse than BMW drivers.

I went down the rabbit hole on this a bit, and turns out it’s a gross exaggeration. What Musk was speaking to was crossing rivers and other high-water situations, and in those cases, the Cybertruck is more “water proof” than most other rigs. This reminds me of the idiots that set the cruise control and climbed into the back of the van for a cross country trip.

What, you mean it's just another misleading headline? Trust nothing these days. Either way, it shows incompetece by the owner.
Did the owner of the Cybertruck have the mod package to where it could traverse up to 100m of water? My bet is no.

Regardless, it is common sense that you don't take an extremely heavy, electric vehicle and try to go boating. It's kind of like buying a waterproof watch. They are only water "proof" down to a certain depth. I mean, really. What did you think was gonna happen when you put a 6700 pound truck in the water?

Traversing water is also a whole lot different than "boating" in water.

Especially when the stock tires are known to be **** in the rain with poor wet and winter traction. Doesn't bode well for a boat ramp which tends to get a bit damp.
