So I have been listening for about an hour now, liking what I’m hearing so far, this may or may not sound weird, but there are moments where I’m like wow they are already opening up, then all of a sudden they sound a little congested then they just start sounding really open again. Been awhile since I have played with new speakers..

Likewise with my first pair of L800s. They took a couple months to smooth out.

Exactly why I nearly sent mine back. They sounded terrible right out of the box but had moments where they grabbed my attention. It took two months before they began to sound their best. They remind me of Pass Labs gear in that way. Pass preamps need to be left on at all times to sound their best. These speakers seem to tighten up even now if they have not been played for a week. It takes about thirty minutes for them to open back up.

I'm having the same experience with the L600's and also did with the R200's when they were new.

While not "new" speakers, or even Polk speakers? My new speakers (to me) took quite a while before they started to stop changing as well. I think they have stopped....but I have thought that before too.

yeap, had the same experience. they were inconsistent for a while. and you'll likely be playing with placement, too, which will make it worse/better

Mine were noticeably less congested when I freed up about 1.5ft of space around them. Originally had them close to the cabinet. Then moved them out, but had 703s between them and the cabinet and subs outside. Too crowded. Setup HT bypass and reduced the clutter. Much cleaner.

The other main factor with distance to back wall. Bass was non-existent in my space/listening area until I moved them back closer to the wall.

I forget what they say in the manual - something about width and distance to wall for sound character adjustments. Whatever they say, it was very simple and very effective at broad-stroke tuning. I made maybe three main changes, and they've been in the same position since.

Same here. I was back and forth on them right up through the end of the return window. After a couple of months I started feeling really glad I didn't return them.

Well the hard thing for me will be saying goodbye to a set of old friends.. ☹️

The harder thing will be figuring out a price point for them..

And I don’t think I thanked Polk for the awesome opportunity to own a pair at a great discount..

    Thank You!!

Any updates on your impressions of them so far? That you are considering moving on from a set of TL's says a lot.

I love what they do, and the wife and I both love how they look in our room, she as well is loving how they sound, she obviously is not going to critique them like myself but if the lower end comes around like I feel/think they will, I will be 100% sold on these.

I am able to place these a lot better along the wall as well.

As far as keeping the 1.2tl's or letting them go, if I had the space to store them easily (not in the garage) I would keep them, I have done a lot of work on them, they have been my babies for what? over 10 years now. It would be difficult to let them go, but we will see, I am in no rush, unless the right buyer, and $$$$ came along. $$$$ can always change things. B)

Has @DarqueKnight Ray started his measurements and tweaks on the the L800s yet? Thinking there's going to be a double backpack KVA collaboration with @VR3, with rings by @Toolfan66 and cheerleading by @TroyD

Not unless someone sends me a pair. :) The 50% off members only sale was tempting, but I was able to resist...for now. I'm not sure I could be happy with smaller speakers in my 2 channel rig. I did go smaller in my home theater (original SRSs replaced with LSiM 707s). I have been been very happy with the sound and aesthetics of my all LSiM home theater system. So happy that I have not (yet) had the slightest inclination to hot rod them with crossover upgrades and other tweaks.

Looking forward to @Toolfan66's in-depth impressions.

  • I'm glad I didn't see the announcement about the sale. I am looking to buy speakers (it's my "big" 2023 goal), and I don't think I could have resisted!

I enjoy reading the various posts throughout the Forum on owners' impressions of the R and L lines. I may just have to join you before long.

Put the L900 modules in them and they get added height too if using a good receiver or processor.

I have differential monoblock amps (Pass Labs X600.5) in my main stereo system, so I am out of luck there. The L800s would work with the common ground Adcom GFA-565se amp in my home theater.

One of the things I would like to hear about on the L800’s is what might be the difference on the sda execution?
Specifically, how the angled approach of the L800 driver’s sound compared to the original sda design?

I have no way of listening to the L800’s to make that comparison to my sda’s.

I would say the original sda is wider but the new one has much more depth
