Never thought the day would come.....new speakers once again.

Those of you who have followed my audio journey over the years, pretty much knew my speaker buying days were over. My current Tyler Acoustic Linbrook Signature Series Reference speakers were part of a three and a half year project that brought it down to the shell, reconditioned the speaker, sealed the internals, took out the crossovers and made a custom, one of a kind, external crossover chassis with all upgraded parts.

Well, I just purchased a pair of Ty's TOTL speakers.....the Woodmere's.

I will be headed up to New York sometime in the near future to pick them up. Woot-woot!

The finish is Italian Santos Rosewood and in beautiful condition with no obvious flaws. The drivers are all top of the line made by Seas, see list below.

2-10-INCH SEAS STATE OF THE ART CONE ALUMINUM WOOFERS

2-7-INCH SEAS MAGNESIUM MID-RANGES

1- 1-INCH MILLENNIUM TWEETER

Crossover components are all of the highest quality using the following:

HOULAND CAPS & ALPHA-CORE INDUCTORS WITH CARDAS WIRING
AND CARDAS TRI-WIRE BINDING POSTS

Dimensions: 75”H X 18”W X18”D

Frequency Response: 22 – 25k

Sensitivity is 93db with a power handling of 50-400 watts.

Weight is 250lbs. per speaker.

    Nice, Tom! Congrats!
I didn't really get a sense of scale from the photo until I read the specs you posted with the driver sizes. And, of course, the dims and weight :D

Agreed. I think I paid the same amount for the Linbrooks I have. I'm not looking forward to moving them but I am looking forward to how they sound when paired with my Musical Fidelity KW750 amplifier. I'm not quite sure what the nominal ohm rating is but I should be able to push about 1,100 watts of pure, clean power into them if they are around 4 ohms.

I wonder if the top and bottom woofers cover the same frequency range. Interesting design for sure.

These would be from the era of Ty using madisound leap builds, I am fairly positive they would be a 3 way and wired in parallel or series

Wow! They are stunning! I hope everything goes smoothly with getting them home and setup. I'm curious about the listening position since they are so tall. That's a lot of bass in your face.

I agree. Stereophile tested it down to 2 Ohms and the bandwidth decreased slightly, but it didn't die.

What I plan on doing with these is pretty much the same thing I did with the Linbrooks. We will use the same external chasis and *hopefully* most of the same upgraded x-over parts, although the current x-over sounds like it already has some upgrades to it.

Ty never did like doing upgraded x-over parts but he did it, if a customer requested it.

I will have to look at what's really in there when I get it and decide where to go/what route to take at that point.

Gonna be a long ride to go get them, that's fo'sho'...

Well, that remains to be seen. Most likely though. Back when I was looking at speakers, I fell in love with the Millennial and Revelator tweeters. This would be my 3rd pair of Tyler speakers and my current pair have been with me for the longest stint of any speaker I have ever owned. That fact dawned on me out of the blue yesterday. I have had the Linbrooks for about a decade now.

Trey's system (VR3) has an element to the reproductive effort that becomes hard to explain. I believe the best word would be the "scale" of the music. Both his and my systems can throw the exact size of a venue with ease but his goes beyond (and this is where it gets hard to describe). His has a presence and scale that can only be done with more displacement on the mains. Yes, the dual Rythmik F25's bring me much closer to the scale he has but I feel that in order to achieve what his rig offers, it has to be on the mains, based upon my experience listening to his rig.

These utilize the same drivers for the MTM that I have in my Linbrooks but with a huge change to the bass network that will be powered by the clean powered KW750. This is the same amplifier he uses in his rig. I have already had 2 Seas 10" woofers in dual subs in my rig before but they were powered by a 500w plate amp. This will utilize 4 of the 10", incorporated into and crossed over within the mains and no plate amp this time. That amp should have zero issues powering these speakers.

So, to answer your question? I dunno. I honestly thought I was done when we started in on the 3 and a half year project for the Linbrooks. Only time will tell as to whether these will be the last stop or not. Whether they are or they aren't, my audio journey has been a blast and I will have some fun with them, regardless of the outcome.
