I have had various power levels over the years, and enjoyed them all. My current system is 1200/w per channel, and I am completely satisfied now. However, when I was first getting used to it I broke both speakers (Magico S5 v1) at the time. Now I never come close to doing that again. :)

I put down 300+ but that's not my amplifier's rating. That is actually only 210 @ 4 ohms. But, I have two direct servo subs that are both 800 watts RMS. So, I guess around an available 1,800 watts and high current.

With that said, I have had systems that were well over 3K watts and some down to 8 watts. I had a lot of fun with that 8 watt rig and the one thing I have learned in my travels is that watts really don't mean a hill of beans. It really doesn't equate to much to me but that's what the "public" usually goes off of.

I have an Adcom GFA 535ll that I believe is rated at 60wpc? I have read that it tests higher but who knows, I never push the 2Bs that hard anyway.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

My answer was based on how it is rated at 4 ohms, which is the speaker rating. At 8 ohms it is 600/w per channel.

800 wpc @ 8ohms. I typically listen at lower volumes, but appreciate the improved dynamics and presence of high current amplifiers.

I mean my 2 channel rig is 100wpc tube monoblocks.
And there are 2 400+ watt subs in there too.

Then my living room system is 35wpc tube stereo and 1 400+ watt sub there.

    The bedroom is 50wpc SS.

The garage is 100wpc SS and also feeds the deck 100wpc SS.
There is a 900 watt sub amp in the garage.

The bar is ~65wpc SS and a 3000 watt sub amp. (There is also a set of 4 speakers in the ceiling aside from the surround system and they are powered by a 1000 watt pro amp).

And then there is the theater...the theater at 4 ohms which is what the majority of the speakers are running is somewhere north of ~35,000 watts capability all in. The majority is pro amps but they are accurately rated class D pro amps (front 3 and wides will be running off a 650wpc class A/B amp).

Not trying to swing my dick around...just been putting together a lot of power for the theater over the years. LOL.

My NAD is rated at 85 WPC into 8 ohms, but my Martin Logans are 4-ohm speakers and the NAD's 4-ohm rating is 150 watts. I put down the 8-ohm rating. I also sometimes use an Optonica SA-5105 receiver rated at 15wpc into 8, and I think 25wpc into 4 ohms? I can't quite remember. Both sound great.

Now, the watts I use of that power? Given my speakers' sensitivity at 92DB, and my tendency to listen well below that even when no one else is home, <1 watt.

I think people would be shocked on how little power we use on a day to day basis. In a full 7 9 or what have you surround system, you might be using 10-30 watts per channel under normal conditions and peak for seconds at a time to 100-200 watts per channel.

I bet my 2 amps never get out of class A operation except for milisecs at a time. Unless I get a little too twisty with my right hand. But adv listening levels prob less than a few watts. But when a note wants power ...they have it!
