In my opinion, the practical decision is a Lexus because as VR3 said, nothing beats a car made by Toyota.

In that line of cars, maybe the "not hardly practical choice" would be one of the two door coops such as the RC, RC F, and LC. You would have a car that has a great sports look and a car that is better on the pocketbook for maintenance.

My 1999 RAV4 (made in Japan) had 323,000 miles on it and still running great when a young kid pulled out in front of me at the last moment from a side street. My RAV4 was totaled. The wreck occurred about 3 years ago, and the insurance company gave me $4000 for a very old car.

Maybe hang on clublexus.com and see what experience people are having. There is a lot of zipperheads on there though.

There's a used LC500 (blue with red interior) with ~6k miles at my local dealer for $83K. It is a GORGEOUS ride. I'd consider it but I need a mastiff and goalie gear hauling vehicle, so small is right out.

It cracks me up when I see people complain about the high cost of ownership when talking about $100K+ cars...

    What did you expect?!

Apply the same thing to almost anything else and cost of ownership rockets once you start to get into high end ANYTHING.

If you're fretting about maintenance, you can't afford it. Plain and simple.

Lexus generally builds a nice looking and fairly reliable car, I just find them BORING to drive. The only Lexus I liked to drive was the GSF.

Top to bottom, I generally really like BMW.

Porsche is basically engineering perfection for the more "average" driver. Anything that gets me going over them is an exotic.

Having said all of that, I won't buy ANY of them, yet.

I would rather stash money away in retirement funds and college funds for my kids at this point. ANYTHING that takes away from other financial goals gets a hard pass, especially cars.

Once I reach some other goals, I will splurge on a car. I'm glad you've hit that mark, Joey!

The LC500 is stunning up close. On that one, the spindle grille is better integrated than on some of the other models.

LOL. I was going to replace my 2005 Mazda 3 with a 2019 Mazda 3, but now that I have retired I am going to run the 2005 until it dies. Of course, it is working so well I might go before it does. :)

I have a 2014 4Runner with 90,000 miles and paid off this month. I am itching for a new tundra but can’t wait to not have a car payment again. Hopefully it last another 5 years and by that time I will have saved enough for full payment on a new car. I can assure you it won’t be of the variety on this thread but these are gorgeous machines.

Can’t make a move until I finish my parents house. This car will be a little treat for me. I have sacrificed enough for the past many years.

We bought a new Lexus GX470 in 2007, it just turned over 160K and still rides and handles like the day we drove it home.

Have replaced two batteries in twelve years, the first one died at five years old, way out of Warranty. Lexus replaced it at no charge, they said "it should have lasted longer".

Two years ago we got a recall for a Cracked Dash Pad that had become an issue with some of the GX Models, ours had a couple of small splits. Lexus replaced the entire Dash, on our ten year old vehicle, at NO charge. Even gave me a loaner ride as I had to leave the car at the Dealership over night.

They have earned a Customer for life. The LS 500 would/is an exceptional ride, I sure wouldn't hesitate to buy one if we needed, or wanted something of that caliber.

In the meantime just research, research, research before ya bite on one. I actually find the forums of real world people experiences with models helpful. JD Power, Consumer Reports... are not reliable sources IMO. Don't forget to run the vin # through the dealer service history on one your interested in along with Carfax. I researched my GS for about a year before I bought it.

I had a mechanic lift my car ( before I bought it ) on a rack to look for damage underneath too. He was impressed that I thought of him to do the "air" inspection. :D

I had a conversation last night with @Legender , among others at our DFW Audiophile Club meet.

I think the most sensible purchase would be a Lexus.

I think either an LS or LC would be killer choices. It might not have the intimidation or power of an S63, but I think the reliability trumps that as a potential choice for me for this round of vehicles. Maybe in another 5-7 years, I can move to the next one and maybe that will be less restrictive than this one.

    Now which color....

I think LC500 is best in caviar black with upgraded black rims.

    For the LS500.... not sure...

I am a big fan of all things Toyota. Lexus LS have legendary reliability. Two 2007 Tundras have reached over a million miles with normal maintenance. Toyota bought them back and torn one down and most if not all things internally looked spec and were in excellent condition. The LS460 was given a rating by consumer reports of 100. Nearest a vehicle before got 95.
They and a lot of other car trade buffs say the V8 was a better fit than the TT V6. And was over all a better car. Infotainment system was given a harsh review. Some day after two kids have flown the coop I will have an LS of some sort.

Massively outdated platform that has no business costing as much as it does anymore.

    Besides, it's a modern Nissan product... :s

Nissan has suffered from poor build quality, nonsensical engineering choices and flash over substance for YEARS.

Honestly, I wouldn’t buy any other car from them, and couldn’t afford a GT-R so Nissan is a no for me either way. I was under the impression it was built at a whole different level of quality than their run of the mill models. What is outdated on it? I thought it was still modern tech to be honest, but I don’t keep up with it all as much as some of you guys do.

A Maser has its attraction. I have not driven one so I don’t know much else about it.

But I believe those type of cars attract the wrong attention. I’m not in the business to look rich.

What you get with me is legitimacy. I am not leveraged nor do I pretend to be something more than I am. I don’t need a fancy car to prove anything to anyone else.

So that’s why I want to stay away from any car that doesn’t appeal to me except on a superficial level.
