Those are nice but not a street legal F1 car. They basically took the Mercedes F1 chassis and put a car body over it. 1000bhp and handling better than being on rails.

F1 hasn't used a V12 in a long time. Look it's still a nice car, but not exactly current F1 technology.

Depends on what you want to spend for maintenance. Most of what your looking at, Porsche, MB, Audi....would be like having an x-wife you'd have to pay every month. That's also the reason why they lose value so quickly. You can buy a 10 year old MB cheaper than a Honda accord these days.

Foreign exotics are all the same too.

Lexus would be my choice, and if you want more sport and fun look into the RC models. That and the Honda NSX would hold value much better than the others. Not sure about room for the kids car seats though.

You are a typical of most people where emotion for a car overrides logic. I've had countless people ask my opinion through the years of what not to buy in a car. Once I tell them what to stay away from they typically pull in my drive excited in a model I tried to steer them away from. You say that your cheap, you won't be cheap anymore once you get a stiff repair bill from that Mercedes after the warranty.

Especially ones that depreciate 30 percent in the first year and 50 percent or more in the first three years. The S63 may make some sense in Germany, but not so much in the US with roads that aren't built for it. Lexus is built for US roads and sitting in traffic.

Either brand I would go certified preowned CPO with maintenance plan and extended warranty.

Have you priced an extended warranty on a Mercedes? I know Carmax charges close to $6k for a Mercedes warranty... and they don't even sell them past 75k miles even under their valumax platform because they are such a bear at that point.

    I had a CPO e550

It came w an extended warranty

Cpo by itself extends the warranty, it’s a built in cost.

I would have to see what the pricing for warranty is but in all luxury cars, I buy extended warranties.

I plan on doing so with the Lexus too

So far I have driven the S550, the LS500, the ML63 AMG.

I am afraid to drive the S63 AMG, the GTS, and LC500.

Because I know one of those is likely going to call me to but now now now

I sold cars for 2 years. Nothing, absolutely nothing compares to anything made by Toyota. Honda doesn't even sit in the same row in the bleachers (but not to far away).

The Lexus LS430 came in regularly with over 200k miles with zero issues. All electronics workings, etc etc. On top of that, they still sold for 13k with over a 100k miles on them as well. Incredible reliability on their vehicles, a true standard to the industry, IMO.

Here is the CPO fine print for Benz

So the standard warranty is 4y/50000, cpo adds 1 year more and then you can opt for either 1 or 2 years in addition.

    mvw9y448o4l7.png

So if I buy a 2017 S63, I would run out of warranty by 2021 but add the cpo and I would be good until 2022 and then I buy extra 2y which puts me to 2024.

Basically 5y of worry free cost.

And then we will see after that.

How many miles a year do you drive? If not a lot and you really want a Mercedes, i would highly consider leasing it, they truly are not vehicles you buy and drive until the wheels fall off.

Yeah but leasing is about $1700 for an S63

Buying a 90,000 one will cost me about $1500 for 5 years without down.

    I drive about 15,000 miles a year

    Maybe a Lexus IS better

Tre, you seem to be knowledgeable regarding the Toyota/Lexus brand. Do you know offhand if the air suspension in the 570 is worth choosing that over a good old Land Cruiser? I suspect either will be a tank, but am pondering a newer LC compared to a 2015 570 with the air suspension. Pretty cool feature but not sure how much I'd use it, and how frequently that air suspension breaks down.

Both of those are awesome statement vehicles from Toyota, IMO. My only thoughts to provide on the air suspension is most people replace them with a standard suspension when they go bad (which is within the first 60 to 100k miles). So if you dont keep them long, I wouldnt worry about it to much. if you plan to keep it past 100k, a standard suspension will be dramatically cheaper up front and long term.

Thanks Tre, much appreciated. There's a good $20k difference in price, so I may go with the 570 and just squirrel away a few grand of that difference for the inevitable air suspension fix. Time to ponder....
